Mobile Mining issue

Post by Cheeze It »

For some reason when I outfit a ship to do some mobile mining and I set it up to collect rocks from a sector, it just errors out and says that the command is complete after about 30 seconnds.

Yes, it's totally outfitted and the commands show. However no matter what I do I cannot get the ship to mine for itself.

Now if I mine it (break it up, make all the rocks nice and ready for pickup), everything is fine, but it will not mine for itself...

Is this something that has been reported before? It does not want to work for some reason.

Er, I'm pretty sure that Collect Rocks means exactly what it says. Unless I'm mistaken (which is possible in this case, I admit) it isn't supposed to just go off and do the whole mining process for you. I believe there's another command for that somewhere.

Yes indeed, there is a "Start Mobile Mining" command somewhere, I saw it on one of my ships last night, but as I am currently installing a bunch of driver updates and such, I can't say for certain where it was located.

Sorry, let me clarify it more. I didn't read what I wrote, my bad...

The collect rocks command works wonderfully :)

The "start mining" command comes up and asks me what I want to mine, and how much, and where to send it, but once I tell it to "start mining" it just errors out.

Basically it's as if the script starts, but can't find that the ship has everything it needs to mobile mine, then quits and tells me it finished the command when it clearly didn't.

This is a great way to get your thread locked. This forum is far too busy for people to go around bumping if they don't get an answer as quickly as they think they'd like to. When someone has more information they will post it.

My bad, will not do from here on out.

I just wanted to bring this issue to the surface, that's all...no harm meant...

So I set up a disco with:-

4 IREs
Max engine tuning
Max rudder
Max Cargo
Boos Extension
Duplex Scanner
Fight Mk I
Fight Mk II
Mineral Scanner
Nav s/w I
SETA
Special Command s/w I
Trade Command s/w I
Trade Command s/w II
Trading System Extension

I wanted to order it to "attack rocks" a la X3R but can't find an option that allows me to do that, not under Special, and not under Combat.

Puzzled.
I can't breathe.

are you taking about the "Mine Minerals" command from the special command list ?

also, what ship are you trying it in ?

RegisterMe, a Disco cant auto mine, as it doesn't have the cargo hold to do, most minerals are XL in size. Also, "Attack Rocks" is not an X3R command

Yes Cycrow, that one.

It's that one.

I had it in a Mercury Hauler. Ore collector, Mining Laser, and everything else was added including a mineral scanner.

Unfortunately I no longer have the savegame (the frustration of this peeved me to start over).

BTW, thank you much for all your scripts, you have made my games MUCH more...interesting. You rock man :)

My I join you in your frustration? :)

The following was removed from another thread.

Mine and Trade Minerals

After equipping a Mercury and sending it on its' way, it completed a tour selling some silicon; which was on board, but now it has come to a grinding halt, with its' 'Action' alternating between 'none' and 'Flying to position...', but actually going nowhere. So am I correct in thinking that this vessel can not be used for mining, despite the fact that an ore collector and drilling system can be fitted, or is a bug?

Yes, he described exactly what happens.

It seems like the script starts with a "move to position" as if it were to start going to an asteroid and to scan it, but then midway it just defaults to idle.

I'd say it stayed on the "move to position" for about 30 seconds or so, then back to idle.

It seems like it's looking for something, but failing.

The 'he' is me. :)

What with the Humble Merchant' start giving the player little option but to use what they can, Paranid and Split reputation being to low to buy a mining vessel, it is an annoyance that the player can be lead to waste credits in this fashion.

Sorry Cycrow, I wasn't clear. I have a TS with ore collector, mineral scanner and mobile mining laser in Home of Light (plus every bit of s/w bar a jumpdrive and Trading s/w mk III).

If I order it to collect rocks it does nothing.
If I order it to mobile mine it does nothing (possibly because I have not set a delivery station for it).

I set the disco up because in X3:R I would pair discos with a TS and have the disco "break rocks" (I think that was the command, something like that anyway). This was vanilla, no extra scripts installed or anything.

I think my problem is that I am assuming functionality based on X3R behaviour, but this isn't X3R......

So let's put the question another way. Has anybody got remote / automated mobile mining to work in X3TC? If so how?

Cheers,

RM

Another test - last night I set up an ore mine in Heron's Nebula and deliberately did not provide it with any e-cells.

I took my mobile miner and set it mobile mining, for ore, in Heron's Nebula, and set to deliver to the ore mine.

It was in Argon Prime when I issued the order. It went to Heron's Nebula, pottered about a bit, and then docked with the ore mine. It's orders had been cleared.

I ordered it to mobile mine in Heron's Nebula again, delivering to the ore mine there. It undocked, pottered about for a bit, and then redocked.

Result = no ore mined.
I can't breathe.

One problem that I thought it would be was that there was no asterioids scanned.

I added a mineral scanner to my ship, AND the mining ship and I scanned every asteroid in an area (just to make sure that they were identified).

Still the same thing as seen before.

You can as me to this list...
the behaviour is they can find the right type of rocks, but they cannot use lasers, so wont break any to collect, the only collectables they find (if any) are ones previouly broken in fights etc

I'm also interested, as I plan on buying a Terran Mobile Mining ship when I have the money (28mil isn't too much....). I'd love to know the correct way to go about mining asteroids....

I had read somewhere that the mobile mining ship had to have smaller mining ships attached which do the actuall mining... but I can't remember where I had read it...
