Is there a mod that adds several new factions?

I'm a long time Civ player and I always enjoyed the 30 + Empire games. Is there a mod that adds a few more races to X2 complete with ships, missions etc?

Unlike civilisation, there are very intricately woven economic interdependancies between the races which create opportunities and challenges for the player on the trade front. It would be a massive undertaking to try and weave any more races into that system!
What intriguing weapons and shields will you use to protect your trade ships and sectors from the Khaak when your not home? unless you can afford capital ships *and luck* its all for nothing, NOTHING! Mwaahhhhahaha
*(amendment for TC since all the good strategy and planning is no longer enough, you also need luck)*

The factions do not "fight" each other, so there is no reason to have more. One could, of course imagine each sector as "nation", and "faction" as alliance of nations, but since you can build everywhere, there is not even "you against AI".

as I've played further into the game I see what you both are saying. I was under the assumption that the "player" was in competition with the various races to obtain and sell resources. And that the Races them selves we're competing for sector domination. Thanks for the replies.

don't hold me to this but i remember playing a mod where every so often i got a message that one race was going to pick a fight with a next race and did i want to help and sometimes later i got a message that the first race now owns sector "Blar blar" ,plus in the additional commands of a M6 there was a command to take over sector (but not for you for another race but you got a cut of the taxes) of the top of my head i think it was Terradine Custom Galaxy Mod

of course it could just be a mod that i dreamed of as often i wake up in a cold sweat thinking "NOOOOO UT 16 why did you have to die " :lol:

could be an idea for a mod. Start border clashes either the xenon start to reclaim they're former glory. the split decide they really want more boron terrotry, the paranid think the argon's are making fun of they're religion that no-one knows anything about.... there are loads of possibilities but the khaak seem to be a threat to all races... maybe it could run after plot missions finish or on a custom galaxy. empty the five unknown centers and fill em with majour ship yard loops producing massive fleets. it would take forever and a day to make, and im skiled in neither modeling or scripting but hey. I would try a war mod.
