pleeeze, It's not really as hard as they're making it out to be,
It's simply a selling point for the X-Universe thing they're planning on Maybe making.

The only things that actually have to be changed to make X multiplayer, is the SETA, you will not see everything else move really fast but everyone else will see U move really fast. And the way the menu is set up and some basic strings to tie up, and !boom! X multiplayer. The rest of the stuff to do, economy, ships, systems etc, is mere detail and would only require, a little effort.
But unfortunately, egosoft won't release the info and resources needed by modders to make a multiplayer X. Do you wanna know why?
Because a multiplayer X, would be a whole new game, not technically speaking, and millions of dollars could be made from it. So if egosoft made it possible for a modder to change X2, or 3 in such a way, egosoft would miss out on all that yummy cash.
It's a wonderful world. Isn't it?

its alot harder than you seem to think it is.
SETA isn't the main problem with multiplayer, althou it is a problem, if you activate SETA, the whole universe speeds, you cant speed up one computers universe and leave the other players as normal. The only way would be to remove SETA altogether.
but like i said, thats not the main problem, the main problem is that it would require the game engine to be remade to allow multiplayer.
it will also require extra programming to add multiplayer and servers.
as for the reason egosoft doesn't release whats needed to make a mod, is because not many companies release thier source code, especially for games that are still on sale

maybe because they are a very small team, and they have no programmers with networking knowledge.
changing the core code to be multiplayer compatable is alot of work and requires complete rewrite of the base code. And thats even before you start adding the networking code.
egosoft do have a plan of making a multiplayer game in the future, but before that can happen, they need to get money to be able to afford to do it.
but its likly they have been slowly adapting their game engine to cope with it, but without doing a complete rewrite it could take several game versions to accompilish

so your telling me, that there aren't enough people there to do it, and they don't have any experiance in multiplayer asspect.... So your telling me that there aren't people jumping at the chance to work for egosoft, people begging them to be part of the team.. YEAH RIGHT. Besides I'm sure that if they released the code, then there would be plenty of modders willing to adapt it to be multiplayer.

u do relise egosoft is a small company right ?
u can prolly count the number of emplyee's on your fingers, ie hardly even double figures.
so theres a good chance theres only a couple of programmers.
so no, there prolly isn't any that are experienced in networking programming.
and as for more ppl willing to work for egosoft who are experienced in network programming, im sure there are, but it doesn't mean egosoft have the money to actually pay them.
and on top of that, how many companies actually release thier source code for current games ?
it just doesn't happen much and only with old games
