Forum Problem
Twice in the last few days the forum has forgotten who I am and I have been required to reenter my user name and password.
I havent been deleting any cookies, is there a known problem ?
Has this happened to anyone else ?

Forum logon iproblem2 (for me)
sorry to whinge/rant, but I always get so fed up trying to log on to the ego forums. Firefox (&IE) usef to store the password, then i must have cleared the cookies, and ever since it hasn't known them.
So I went to 'forgot' passwrod, and got a new one, only to be done it by the visual confirmation code part. I tried doing that about 10 before it worlked.
The problems:
i) you type in logon information, then it says enter visual confirmation code, then it clears the login fields, and have you type them in again, and the vis conf code.
ii) the code is really hard to read, some charactersare pretty indecipherable, and it doesn't say how many characters are need, whether it's case senstitive.
ii) there has been times when I am positive I have typed in the code correctly and it says 'wrong vis code''
iv) then you have to retype everything again. all in all a very frsutrating, boring, and annoying process.
i really do find it a problem, hopefully firefox will now remeber my password, and sign me in. But this has been a significant problem and has stopped me from replying to some posts that i otherwise would have.
I'd thought i'd mention it ,because maybe some other people are having similar problems.
I probably should have PM'd this or put it in technical support, but as I was already here, i thought it could go here.
bye

edit:title was a bit harsh

I had forgotten my password too when it failed for the first time the other day, so I requested another and had the same problem you mention regarding the disapearing username and password while entering the confirmation code.
I had alot of trouble getting the visual confirmation right too, 1's and I's looked the same It took me a few tries to enter in the correct code.
But the main problem is that it forgot I was "remembered" causing the request for a password in the first place.

The forum "forgetting" your login is almost always a client-side problem. If it keeps happening then you might want to look at your cookies and your security settings, particularly making sure that you are allowing cookies for this site. Note that there are various prefixes to the egosoft.com part of the URL so you should try to allow anything with that in it.
Unfortunately the security measures for login are necessary because of the ridiculous number of spammers and spambots around. These have become sophisiticated enough to require the visual identification to be made quite difficult to read, hence the occasional errors that people make. Obviously this isn't an ideal situation but there are currently no alternatives.

occasionally I get logged out, and can't log back in again until I delete the egosoft cookies. I think I might have spotted a pattern to it though. It happens when I have two tabs open for the forums here for a long time (using Opera 9.02). I think it might be something to do with my session expiring and renewing and me ending up with 2 tabs with different session id's

I dont think I tried closing the browser and opening it again, if it forgets me again I will give it a try. Im using Ie6 on win2k.
The other forums Im a member of havent been forgetting me, so I dont think Iv been hacked and someone is playing with me, otherwise other forums would probably be having problems too.

Its good practice to implement audio captcha alongside visual captcha. Sure, there are a few users who have both hearing and visual problems and they will still find the captcha to be a problem, but you catch the vast majority.CBJ wrote: Unfortunately the security measures for login are necessary because of the ridiculous number of spammers and spambots around. It could be something trying to piggy-back .And the security program see's it. And drops the offending link ,which happens to be you as far as security is concernd.
Being the piggy-back is useing the I/O address you are you are.
Not that all security programs could detect certain situation's
This has happpend to me once or twice. When I know I'm active enough for this site to see me as active.
Ya ,spammer's being spam should be put into the frying pan.
