Game plot.

Post by howzat »

After the battle in Omicron Lyrae and Brett's funeral, how long does it take for the game to go into the next phase? I'm getting bored waiting for Ban Danna to contact me. :?

But after the funeral he contacts you to tell you that they are looking for a cure for Julian's father who is in a coma after being rescued from the Khaak planet destroyer.

If that is the end of the game i.e. the plot, then it's pretty poor as all you end up doing is flying around making money and shooting ships. Plot is the crucial ingredient in any game and it is too short in X2. :x

in the X universe, the plot is a mere diveration, the main part of the game is the sandbox universe

and a plot isn't crucial for any game, i've played plenty of games without plots

It's crucial for a lot of games, but not all. With the X series so far you're better off mostly ignoring the plot and trying to get into the rest of the game.

Correct, It was. Egosoft had a serious attempt at fixing this in X3 but, while it's length was considerably improved, it was let down by a rather poor implementation, and the fact that it had almost nothing to do with X2s plot.
as all you end up doing is flying around making money and shooting ships.
Also correct. Some people enjoy this approach, some people find it a bit pointless. I lean towards the latter group like yourself, so they way i play x-games is to build up an empire, with the sole purpose of giving me lot's of options as to how i go about doing the plot when i finally undertake it. Once i've finished it i usually play a bit longer, but by then i've long since done anything i want to do and the game becomes repetitive.
Plot is the crucial ingredient in any game and it is too short in X2.
Well it's not cruicial in Sim city:) But i agree with you. Especially in a game like this, a plot is essential, because it gives the player something completely new and unique to do as a break from all the mindless trade runs and rare but repetitive BBS missions.

I found the plot in X2 annoying and only finished it in case there were any more freebies.

The main reason I played X2 was the sandbox, being as it was the best available for many years.

I found that I would install a mod and then start the game over useing the new ships or scripts or whatever. The plot is not a big thing but it is amusing. Its all up to you. Build, Fight, think :)

Look around for a Xenon Invasion mission in the station BBS near Xenon sectors. That Should Get your blood running!
