It could be done though since checkertwo released version 15b of his object hack file you can now make a ship use the class M0 and all ships no matter their size can dock with it. I've been toying with the idea of a superbase or superstation for some time now but one thing thats bugging me is how much space will it take up in a sector.

depending on how big it is, it may not be able to leave the sector, say in one of the unknown. then it becomes a semi moble player HQ. Or not mobile. but you wouldn't want it in a busy sector would you?

it would be cool if you could buy a super huge powerfull station that wouldnt be mobile but could use jumpdrive.

Thats what I was thinking about making was a big ol armed to the teeth superstation that would technically be a ship but it couldn't move and it couldn't maneuver it would have a bridge though but I put a nice big office in there instead hehe.

why dont you make it so it cant move, and use the gateless jumpdrive script avabile on the stickys, it really would help to have a mini-HQ that was portable

Well my play style is to permanently take over atleast one sector and place an eq dock there and a shipyard there. I have about 20 or more custom TP class associated with the eq dock running around buying stuff within a 10 jump radius and many patrol ships within that jump radius as well. I like to think that I can start taking over the X universe from there lol so a permenant base is a good idea to me. I don't like the idea of running away from any sector invaders lol.

I would tend to agree, that is my style as well. I amass as many ships as I can, have sector traders earning money, 10+ TS for each sation buying and selling products and as many fighters as I can afford patrolling. I tend to take over Pres End after it gets wiped out. It makes a nice central location.
I tried setting up in one of the Xenon sector after I cleared it out, but the sector traders don't work there saying everyone hates me what shall I do.
A permant base somewhere is good idea, but I like the idea of being able to put it wherever you want. And if you don't like where you put it, move it. Granted the gateless jumpdrive is my favorite addon, cause you don't have to burn up your energy cells everytime you go anywhere.

Hmm I never looked into that gateless jumpdrive thing, I usually take over sector bala gi joy after clearing out all the pirates and I drop my main eq dock and shipyard there. There is an NPC soler power plant there so if I trade with it I can increase my rank with the race that owns it easily. I usually rebuild sector presidents end with most of what was there and some choices of my own as well. I place a refueling depot in the first unknown sector way out there past nathans voyage since it's only a few jumps away from xenon and khaaka territory so it's tactically sound as well. After setting up all my military bases I then go out and setup some mining bases which are teladi trading stations with a bunch of TS assigned to them and any ore and silicon I mine with my mining ship I dump off there and let the mining base sell it all off. Of course with a superbase I could do all that in one base since it would hold large amount of each item atleast more than two of something lol and all items could be traded from one location.

From what your discribing, it almost sounds like the Complex thing in X3. I wonder if you could use the data from X3 to make the moonbase?
Yeah the gateless jump drive is great. If you buy all three of the upgrades at the equipment dock, then it doesnt use any energy cells to jump across the Galaxy. It works in all ships bigger than M5. Anything that can have a jump drive installed. What is the best is the Freejump setting which you can pick an exact corridinate to jump to. (for example-say you want to jump right next to Terracorp HQ then after selecting freejump and the sector, you pick an exact location or object to jump to. You usually come out about 5k away, perfect for docking. Larger ships come out a little farther out but not bad) Best part is your larger ships like M1's dont crash into the little ones when leaving a gate. you dont come out of the gate but right at the target you selected.

its brillant isnt it, i used to burn about 10,000 energy cells a day because i was running around protecting 20+ freighters in a M2. i got deadly's mod as well which moved the gates out by 30KM, so you cant detect the gates by advanced nav sat, so it worked out great for me

Harlock have you checked the other post out. It sounds awwsome, it is for X3 though I don't know how we(really you) could make it for x2. Talking about internal shations and gates in and out, big enough to dock M1's and M2's inside. Pretty cool. I recommend everyone interested in the moonbase idea look at what has been done for X3.

wot u have to remeber is that x3 has better shader support and graphics, eg i do not know if teh clounds could be done. also the x3 enginn can handel large polycount. but i c no reson y it can not be done for x2 on a smaller size.

if soem here would not mind doing it they should pm observer about it, one for help and 2 to c if he mines some eles using his idea. but i am sure he will not mind being teh nice person he is.

the idea I was thinking of was not a moon or planet just a big station that is armed which is different than a moon base. Yes X3 engine can handle more polys but it has trouble with LOD support I think. X2 engine can handle 90k polys per object on a decent machine before it has problems. We don't really need to make something 90k polys to get it to look good though.

Okay I apploigise, I missed that. So just a very large ship or station. That still sounds cool, What is LOD? I am just not familiar with the term is all. So back to the issues, A very large ship or station, Gateless jumpdrive or not. Probably best left up to the player to decide. Something large enought to dock M1's and M2's to allow you to transfer wares from large ship to large ship. A large well armed Equipment dock, in function but armed and looks like a really large ship or Space Station.
Thats about the idea right?
