how do i make wallpapers? EDIT: GIMP
Hey all.
I've seen many wallpapers around this forum that people have made and I've allways wondered, "how do they do it?" If I could I would like to make my own X3 wallpapers. So, simply, how would I do it?
EDIT: This thread has turned into a GIMP faq for me. So if you know anything, look at the next page.

Well its a hard question there are few types of wallpapers:
1) regular screenshots
2) renders,photoshop maid stuff
The first one is easy just press Ctrl+H and remove the hud and take a screenshot
The second one is harder cause you need to learn how to use programs like Photoshop

Google is your friend
Start with the good tutorials you find on there.
Thats what I love about using Photoshop and G.I.M.P - I've found out 99% of my knowledge from the net

"There must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the universe can be said to be zero, From this it follows that the population of the universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the product of a deranged imagination" - Douglas Adams

It's an artform. Artforms are rarely "occasional hobbies" and regularly require a large amount of skill to be competant at. Skill takes time, there's no shortcuts.Syndrome wrote:Well, does it take long to learn? Because I don't want to spend ages and ages of time just for somthing that I might use as a occasional hobby.
For example, I've been 3D modelling and taking photographs for years now, but I have a long way to go before I consider myself "really good" at them. A glance accross the pages at DeviantArt soon puts my ego in check if I start getting too proud of my works

I'm having problems with GIMP. When I try to open it has an error message saying the following:
That's it exactly. I remeber seing a warning in the installation that somthing like this would happen but unfourtunately I forgot. So do you know what I should do now?Pango-WARNING (recursed) **. Couldn't load font "MS Sans Serif 7" falling back to "Sans 7"
aborting...

That takes money, and so is a silly suggestion for a "begginer occassional hobbiest"Player. wrote:Move to photoshop

You could try uninstalling the font in question, though this could easily affect other applications. Alternatively, you could try and find the font for (free) download and reinstall it.So do you know what I should do now?

Like I said, in the first installation it said somthing about going to Control Panel and only selecting "true fonts" or somthing if I have trouble with it. But after trying to re-install it, the message no longer comes up. So I don't know what to do. I'm running Windows 98 by the way and I have installed the GTK runtime inviroment.
