Hi all, recently read the 'traders tale' series by mecenary. Total quality, brilliantly writen!! Lets hope he returns!!

Would really appreciate suggestions for a follow-up excellent read! Is there any fanfiction on this forum to equal traders

It should be a crime if you haven't read Rogues and Traders. The Rogues Trilogy was briliant, and if you liked the Traders series you'll love the Rogues series.

KiwiNZ: Last I heard he was up to something like ch. 3 from memory. I read to the end and got pissed off that he hadn't written any more. For a New Zealander you don't write half bad yourself, and you've got a nice site. Pitty you New Zealanders don't play sport as well as you write. (I just had to get that in)

I am actually German, just used to live in NZ for quite some time. Sorry, had to burst that bubble. hehe

Yes, Steve got a bit hacked off with the way his X3 did perform and lost motivation. Let's hope he finds it back soon. After all, patch 1.4 is great, if you ask me, makes the game a lot faster on my laptop and hasn't crashed yet. Hear that Steve?

Heard it. Heard it for 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 and now 1.4. I'll start playing x3 again when it is actually 'finished' as X2 was eventually. With all the bugs fixed, the tech problems resolved and mods adding back all the missing interface features. It ran fine on my machine in terms of speed. I just got fed up with corrupted save games losing me hour after hour of play. It got to be 3 steps forward 2 steps back and life is too short.

I'm sometimes tempted to reopen Rogue 4 but not many people seemed to be reading it, although I do receive the odd email asking about it. I wrote a few hundred words of the next chapter a couple of weeks ago but other things have got in the way.

Bottom line is Rogue isn't commercial. I'm writing for publication nowadays. A writer friend wants me to rewrite Rogue as a non-sci-fi military adventure and send the first three chapters off to a particular agent, which is tempting but I don't think I can do conventional thriller so well.

If there was ever an X series of books I'd rewrite the series properly for it but that isn't going to happen I suspect.

Don't be so pessimistic! If it gets you going again I'd even start translating Nopileos

I can see somehow that rewriting Rogue's to a contemporary military theme wouldn't be so nice. not sure if it is the same for you, but I'd have a problem trying to put a nice coat around current affairs in days where war and terrorism appear to be among the most popular topics.
