Hello, just wondering if anyone has actually thought to add a calulator to the game.

Post by Rylian »

I'm glancing over all the post here, looking around, but I have yet to see a simple calulator put into the game. Personally I am not a math wiz, nor do I enjoy excessive trading, but the earily game seems to be built around this (so you can get good enough weapons to actually hurt a pirate ship after you taken out the sheilds I find the Gamma Impulse Lasers are far to weak for serious pirate hunting.) So given that I am forced into trade runs. But because I am not very good with mental math... alright I admit I can memorize formulas very well, but that's advanced algerbra and it doesn't mean I can DO them in my head.. I was wondering if someone would put in a Calulator addition so I can easily put in two prices and get an estimate of profit margins before I decide to fill my cargo holds.

To be honest I'm suprised there wasn't one already...I mean their esentually saying a starship can auto-navigate (taking into acount what ammounts to ROCKET science in terms of trijectory thrust and gravitational effects of objects in a system) but can't take two numbers and add subtract multiply or divide them and spit out an answer. :(

Just doesn't make sense, now does it? :?

I go one step back from from that extreme, I just have a calculator on my desk next to my keyboard and my X map in front of me with a notepad and pen handy to jot down my plan of action. Hehehe

The Mrs thinks i am a total mental case

just looking at my desk now. Calculator, writingpad, pencil, reading specs, and joystick. Keyboard and mouse are on a tray under the desk and a map of the xunivere is pinned to the noticeboard to my right.

That's all pretty much standard X gaming kit. :D

Any calculator that could be implemented in X2, or X3 would be clunky and difficult to use compared to a pocket calculator on your desk.

luckly my keyboard comes with a built in calculator i can use :P

there would be no way to make any gui for a calulator, the only way would be to have text input, which isn't exactly a good method, and would prolly be more annoying than anything.

althou, it might be more possible in X3

Always one who has to go one better :P  :)

I agree about the X in game calc being more annoying than functional.

"332 crystals * price of.... **BOOM** <<< couldn't see that I have already reached my destination" best stick to the handheld calc me thinks.

300 crystals for the price of 1982 per crystal bought here... and then sold over here at a price of 1999 over here.... is... is...

1982 < 1999

...a profit...

Screw the rest of the math.

That's how I calculate my gains. It takes a few seconds to know if it's a good gain just be compairing numbers.

If you're going to do anything more strategic as far as planning goes, you might as well just get some normal office supplies and write a market summary on the state of the Xverse in your game and apply a globalized strategy to your resources. The economy is pretty predictable in X2. Buy low from full up stations, sell high to needy stations, or take a mission from needy stations for an extra few to add to your coffers. Nothing anyone should need a calculator for.

Just remember... the Khraack are out there.

Then you need to calculate the amount of cargo. Actually, those two figures aren't even worth bothering with.

buy beef 61
sell beef 112

profit = 51. Much better profit but beef takes up 4 spaces.

So an item taking up 2 spaces but making a profit of 26 is better.

You do need a calculator, but should it be in the game, or on your desk?

Maybe it sould be in options. Anyway, I can never remember how much all of the items sell for. I think there are too many items to choose from.

What about a level 2 sale/buy finder function which tells you the price difference based on the storage it needs? So 51 cr per unit and storage 4 would have a ratio of 12.75cr/stor and the other example 13cr/stor.

dude.. u ppl make things so hard :P... just check the price bought at... say 5 credits per cell... and check if theplace buying them is higher then 5... done... theres no need for calculators!...

unless... say your compairing amounts of guns on one destroyer to another... that can be a pain but I just perfer to capture a bunch of M3 khaak sell em for 3 mil a piece and just make enough money for w/e I want!

When you're in the trade menu, look in the bottom right hand corner. The left hand figure shows how much money you do/will have if you buy/sell as many items as you have selected. The right shows how much difference, + meaning you had/have more, - meaning you had/have less. Just make sure you aren't a button press away from buying anything, write down that number, go to the other station, say how many you want to sell, look at the left hand figure now and that's how much you will have if you sell them. Take the first from the second using your calculator and bingo. That's how much profit you will make. :)

Another thing... Dosen't it say some where what price you bought it at?

Maybe it's just me but I thought there was something like that in it...

Or maybe it was just what andman was talking about...

Trading in game for me was easy but time taken putting out satellite and looking for prise station by station or sector by sector with best buy/sell locate works well. but a trader or market software that did the leg work for you would go down treat.
