Post by Avis »

I havn't actually created much in the way of wallpaper material in a while so thought I'd strap a few eliments from my work in progress video together and make a wallpaper-esk render.

Hello Avis :D

Yep, the picture's pleasing on the eyes :)

I take it that's the moon in the foreground....and not a ruddy great asteroid heading for earth! :o (joking  )

Don't go crazy with the nebulas.

They are very pretty but if you're gong to do it, make it a trash nebula or something like a old hulk area.

Personally the nebula kills the feel of space for me...

I think the variation in the sun's surface is a little too strong, but other than that, fine work indeed.

No matter how good he gets, we still pick holes. :D

I think it's great. That said, I like the sun but I'd prefer the Earth to be sighty further round its orbit so it was a bit more of a cresccent.

thanks for comments,

the nebula I wasn't going to add at all, but black space doesn't excentuate (sp?) objects floating about in what is effectively a very dark place.
after watching B5 through again Nebulas are used largly to make objects stand out rather than fade into the background (as do X games). so I kinda went with that way of thinking, obviously in earthspace it isn't 'realistic' so I'm still debating the pro's and con's still myself, though based on test renders I'm hedging towards using them, call it artistic licence ;-).

re-Sun, yup agreed, things wen't wrong when I re-scaled the sun and planets to match the scale of the space station and ships, (ie had to scale up) the flame size and density of the sun just never looked right after the re-scale so obviously needs a bit more attention :-)

Pretty good, nice to see a new thing from you Avis, you haven't been posting much artwork recently. :) I think this is wallpaper worthy and now resides on my desktop. :D

Yeah, I could see the cene without the nebula as lacking something extra.

I wonder what it would look like if you hinted to the Milky Way with a silohuette or cloudy mass; or what about having Mars, Saturn, or Jupiter ever so slightly visible. Should be a good test to try and do well

Yeah, Snokid's got a good point about the Milky Way there Avis :)

Being's this scene must be set in the far distant future maybe some of the more prominent 'nebula' :gruebel: ...errr....let me think....perhaps the Orion Nebula? or something similar has expanded to such an extent it's more visible and larger now in this picture's background....*shrugs*

okay, i'll shut up now  :D

Hum, I can't really tell where the planet ends and where the ship begins. Might just be me.

I think it would be good to maybe add a few small asteroids and/or chunks of debris around the moon. A mining outpost or somthing on the moon with some workers would be nice.
