Manual for US version of X³: Reunion

Post by The_Abyss »

Well, we were a little surprised that the feedback on the manual was quite as strong as it was, and some things just didn't seem to add up.

Having done some independent checking over the weekend, we have unfortunately discovered that the US manual is not the correct version. Indeed, tracking back it appears to be printed from a draft that we were working on 6 weeks before our deadline.

I can only apologise on behalf of our US publishers and rest assured we are looking into why such an error was made.

So what we will do from our end is to make a pdf manual version available online for registered users as soon as possible, and also given adequate time amend some of the details from the final manual which are also incorrect or outdated. Full details will follow shortly.

Was it just the US version that shipped with the wrong manual? Every where else ok (UK in particular)

You just now realized the U.S. manual is outdated? People have only been complaining about it for a while now. And I remember reading a european review that said the manual was outdated too so you might want to look at that aswell. Do you even play your own game?

No offense, i'm just saying it how I see it, and I really enjoy X3 incase anyone thinks i'm just trolling, but how do you not notice something like this?

I believe I've got the UK DVD version of X3 (I got it from GoGamer.com), and the manual for that is incorrect as well... It shows options that aren't in the game (enable/disable warp tunnel, for example) and incorrect items (like the shield indicator screenshot).

Whichever version I've got, I will refer to the promised PDF version (when it becomes available) as the 'true' documentation.

Did you get it from gogamer.com? They do imports. If the deepsilver logo is on the game box then its the U.K. release.

Mine has the Deepsilver logo, so I guess it is the UK release.

And that means that the UK manual is deeply flawed, too. :(

Has the US version even been released yet?

The UK version of the manual is not 100% correct, for reasons already explained elsewhere regarding differing deadlines for the manual and the game. The US version, however, contains considerably more errors for the reasons explained above.

yep U.S. release has been out for a few weeks now, which is why I for one am a bit annoying that Egosoft just now figured out the manual problems.

I thought there was something strange about the manual I got with my North American version of the game (I still haven't recieved my UK Copy from Egosoft so I can compare but hopefully it will be here soon :D).

Either way, I am not upset. As I have mentioned in my lengthy post (in my sig) there are many things that happen in publishing (especially print) and well.. Some times shit just happends.

Either way this has no reflection on Egosoft in my opinion. Rather there seems to have been a mix up between the marketing department of Enlight and the Print Publisher.

@ Egosoft

Thanks for working on putting up a proper .pdf version of the manual for registered members on the forum. Its greatly Appreciated!

On a more serious note, the poster a couple of entires back wanted to help write the manual.

What would help a lot more is if people wanted to come up with a Wikipedia manual for X3. I was playing Silent Hunter 3, the WWII submarine game, and it, too is an open-ended, technically-dense game with a so-so manual. Eventually the Silent Hunter fans came up with a most helpful Wiki to answer the basic questions and provide links to the more difficult concepts.

so that explains that one manual had all the rankings and the other manual didn't

Well, this is better now at least :)

It was good to read that a PDF version of the manual will be made available. I look forward to downloading a manual I will be able to read without straining my eyes. I don't think that printing black pages with miniscule writing was a bright idea, some of us have old men's eyes don't you know. Some of the diagrams in the "Black" manual are very hard to view.

I think that all producers should have a copy of the manual on the Installation media and many do. Surely with the likes of copy protection software installed producers aren't still worried about some peeps photo copying the manual.

Thanks to the stuff up I will now be able to print the manual in A4 size and read it.

On this note, we created an online FAQ for X2 - you can see it here

This was created by 'normal' gamers :p and something similar can be created again. Anyone interested in joining on this should send me a PM.

Please note that you will have to have a verydetailed knowledge of X3 to do this. Work will probably start after the next game update.
