Uh-oh, dang it, drat. I recently changed my OS, it's now Win XP 64 bit. Graphics card is still 8800GT, everything worked fine before reinstalling. I installed the 3D viewer to X3:TC file, and get an error " Unable to locate component- App failed to start because d3dx9_29.dll was not found. " I tried re-installing but get same msg.
Thanks if you can help me with this.

That dll is part of the viewer install, so it's always there.

How do you mean 'I installed the 3D viewer to X3:TC file',
it doesn't have to be put in the X3 folder (anymore).

Can you see that dll in the install dir where the viewer exe is?

Still having difficulty getting back into this,
hopefully one fine day the enthusiasm will kick back in.

Thanks for the fast reply. I hope you can get some pizza so I can get some help because as I said earlier in the thread it's an awesome tool, which I am missing right now. :(
So yeah there's no d3dx9_29.dll in the file. There is a d3dx9_37.dll .
I meant I directed the installer to X3:TC but uninstalled there and put it into programs file, still no joy.

Just realised that d3dx9_37.dll is the correct version
for version 2.0 (&up) of the viewer.
So the viewer shouldn't be asking for that _29 dll version.

However, since it is...
here's that dll, try putting it where the viewer exe is

http://www.Exogenesis.co.uk/d3dx9_29.dll

Thinking further -
are you sure you're installing the viewer version 2.0.0.2,
and not some earlier version ? - that might cause this behaviour.

OK, I got it. I had installed the viewer into C:\Program Files, but I realized my X3:TC directory is in C:\Program Files (x86). (Btw, I have no idea why I have two program file directories. :? Now I'm thinking "maybe this is why my printer hasn't worked. " )
So I reinstalled the 3D viewer into (x86). It still wanted the d3dx9_29.dll though. And it was the right version from page one of this thread. Anyway that got everything going. I'm really grateful for your time in responding, exogenesis. I can't brag enough about your viewer. Thanks. :D

"program files" is for native code (ie 64 bit applications - bet there's not a lot there that didn't come with windows :P). "Program files (x86)" is where 32-bit programs go.

Hi folks,
I also have the problem with Reunion 2.5 + XTM 0.75 + Ashley's XXL (+ some others like backgrounds, HUD etc.):
while reading the data, the modelviewer closes without any warning or error and I'm facing my desktop again :(

Unfortunately I have to use this version 2.0.0.2 'cause I want to change the cockpit-positions via txt-editor.

With X3:TC (modded with some different scene-files) everything is working fine =)

No progress I'm afraid, haven't really gotten back to this yet.

Only untoward thing I can see in that crash log is it's using D3DX9D.dll,
i.e. the debug directX dll.
If you go to ControlPanel, DirectX, & the Direct3D tab,
is your 'Use Debug Version of Direct3D' selected ?
Not that it should stop the viewer working.

I can confirm AshleysFabs 2.5 is causing the viewer to crash atm,
previous AshleyFabs (2.3?) is OK.

 Can you fix it? Hope so, 'cause all links to downloads seem to be broken, even version 2.5 has only one new mirror, not to speak about older versions

So I just downloaded your model viewer and I can't seem to get it to work.
The install went fine, everything went fine until I tried to load all the files. When I start the viewer up, after I've selected the x3 directory, is starts to load then it just freezes. Completely. I let it sit there for fifteen minutes but that had no effect. Is this fixable?
I'm running win xp 32 bit X3 reunion latest version on steam.

8800GTx
4gb Ram
win xp 32 bit
Intel core i7 2.6ghz 8core blah blah
Steam version of x3 reunion.

I dont know what else could be relevant, but if i left something out just tell me.

I assume other Steam users have got this to work?

Difficult to diagnose with so little to go on.

Try setting 'diagnostics' mode via regedit.exe
HKLM\SOFTWARE\X3Models3DFunfair
DWORD called DiagnosticMode set to avalue of 1.

Could give a better idea of where it siezed up...

At this point it did not hard freeze at least, but nothing seems to actually work. I've never used a functional version of the viewer so I don't really know what has worked and what hasn't.

Btw, you should change how it first starts up. In stead of a tabbed browser for finding the x3 directory, you should set it up such you can type in a path. This is just nitpicking, but it would make it less of a pain in the ass to start up.

you seem to have a pluginmanager.cat there,
have you installed some mod(s)?

I have cycrow's plugin manager and ship creator. I modified my Nova to mount PBEs and the xsp file is in the x3 folder. I have BSE, advanced thruster, overtune BBS, community extended mod pack (i dont know if that;s XTM, but XTM is definetly not installed in my x3 copy), Move to coords, Salvage claim, and satellite early warning network

Can you tell I cap ships ? :)

What do you mean by favorite e-flavor? Phosphene isn't my usual handle, I go by Tachyon most places, If you've ever seen my posts at the other X-universe forum.

I might as well explain to you why I want to use your ship viewer. I want to take X3 ship models, primarily the Nova, and save it so that I can open it in some other 3D modeling programs. I don't even know if that's possible, but I if it is not I will make do with just your viewer, it seems to have some basic rendering capabilities.

sorry, made a connection that wasn't there.

Looks like some combination of those mods, &/or your edits is
giving the viewer gyp.
Although they're mostly script mods, which shouldn't affect it.

Does the viewer work for you without your own mod installed ?

I'm guessing so...I dont want to mess with it tho. I'll try to figure out whats messing with it.
