The Pegasus model currently in use only has landing for fighters in one flight pod, which tends to lead to choke situations during in-sector landing. Could we have landing bays installed in the other flight pod, as well?
Also, for some reason, I was able to dock an M6 to Pegasus using a Docking Computer, but not using the auto-docking feature.
Docking bays can take a lot to get right I will have a look though. The Basestar is a nightmare when it comes to docking but Im sure I did put more than one fighter docking bay on Pegasus. It could be a Game Engine thing but I will look into it. My firsy priority is looking at Coxons new models.
Okies guys Ive had a look at Coxons new model for the galactica. There are a couple of texture issues one of which Coxon points out in his readme file. This is that the Small object in the scene might need to be remapped. Ive remapped it and in max there are a couple of strange graphical anomalies I cant explain or work out. They look like a couple of polys have had their normals flipped or something but in fact they havent. Rendered she looks sweet. Biggest problem I can see is the amount of Polys as she weighs in as a 3ds file at 66k Polys. I exported her to a bod file and loaded her into my scene as a replaced hull for the old model I used. I resized her so she fits perfectly with the guns, docking bays etc. I then went to load up the scene. Well that was over 10 mins ago and she is still loading up and Im using Max 9. The bod file for the hull alone is nearly 10 megs in size so all Im gonna say here is dont hold your breath on this one as it could be quite a while.
On another note Im going to have a look at the other files he included as theres a couple of new ships like a different version of the Raptor. This one has been fitted out for Combat, also theres a new design by Coxon straight from his imagination which looks pretty cool. I also noticed in the textures that he included there are some heads there so I want to see what he has done with adding pilots to his meshes.
EDIT Ok max finally finished loading the scene file up. Bad news is that now its 130,707 polys with 75,699 verts. This is gonna hurt when X3 loads it up.
Yea, I've been working on aone of the few models you don't seem to have up (I don't think it's cannot), and getting the poly counts down from the numbers most model builders are using these days is a challenge.
the one thing i have seen a lot by current model builders is the fact that large surfaces that could be made of small bits are being made up of hundreds of bits, look at things like oblivion.
Does x3 use mirroring? as thats what oblivion uses to drop the polys on its meshes

Mirroring\Cloning is what the modeller chooses in a 3d application to make his life easier or even symmetry its not down to the game engine just the 3d application they use when designing the mesh. The high polys usually come from either applying smooth to the mesh or turbo smooth and increments that have been applied to it.They can also come from the amount of segments they apply to the standard primitive when its created. The biggest problem here that we face is that these files are in 3ds format not max and you cannot see what modifiers have been applied to the mesh as its been compounded. ie they had it as an editable poly or evn mesh applied the modifiers then converted it to an editable poly again by either choosing that option or attaching another object to it say another editable poly thus creating a new editable poly/mesh. To put it into laymans terms its like producing a really nice cake for someone to eat but not telling them the recipe.
The model itself is divided into 4 seperate pieces each of which could have been made from just creating splines or even just a standard box then going from there. Then again each piece could have been made from several different parts.
I might have a different high poly model kicking about somewhere on one of my harddrives that is smaller in polycount but I will have a look later and see what I can come up with. Other than that this will be a big challenge to get the count down even running it through polycruncher.
i started doing models for oblivion, made a stupid poly mesh for a weapon then learned my folly, at thart time i didnt know the various ways of getting better poly counts to look smoother.
The same people said that if the items are set as mirrored when exported the game reads the file easier or something, maybe i was misinformed, but the fact that if you look at the meshes for oblivion they are mirrored so that they only need 1/2 the texture and the likes.
I only started using 3d modelling stuff for a few weeks then left the whole oblivion game to rot in its own gasses, but i started using Blender because it was the main one to get meshes working, this was before the converter for 3dsmax turned up, now i just dont have the willpower to learn gmax lol.

Ok I got the new galactica down to less polys than the Pegasus
Ive put it into the game just to see how long it took to load up and its roughly between 5 and 10 seconds so about the same as the pegasus also.
Got it textured too and also did something nifty with the engines hehehe. Im going to do the turrets and the docking bays tomorrow probably if not then at the weekend. I may change the guns but am not sure yet as I dont know if the Heavy Missiles will work on other weapons but I will check it out. The starboard landing bay on this model has the exit blocked off which as I noted in Season 3 Ep 17 is correct the exit is blocked off so I left it. Not sure what Im going to do with it yet but will figure something out. I may do something different as far as just turrets on this as the Galactica also has other hardpoints on her and I wouldnt mind cutting down on the turrets, anmely that great big cannon at the front and all its little friends.
This model looks totally ace and Coxon has outdone himself with this mesh and the others that he included in this package that werent in the previos one. He even did a Cylon Centurian which just looks out of this world.
I look forward to playing with the new one and will be updating your ships on my site ASAP.
I noticed over on the BSG mesh pages that there's a "Cygnus Defender" that looks very different from yours but very cool. As-is, it needs many of the polys moved over to textures, but do you know if there are any plans for it or a reverse-engineered version. It would make an excellent M2 to the Galactica/Pegasus M1 (wonder if X3 might like them as different versions of the same M1... a standard and Vanguard).
Point me in the right direction here Tensin. Are you talking about the Cygnus Defender on Sci Fi Meshes? If so that things a broken download.
Oh also I got hold of Wjaspers Galactica which is highly detailed but is like half a million polys so I dont think I'll convert that but my god is it nice looking.
Only the 3DS version is broken. I've got the LW version and converted it to 3DS (though I broke the texture mapping in doing so). The big issue is the very high poly count.

I have been using the MKVII with a Raptor on my wing. WHen I saw this thread I uploaded all the new versions. Then when running the game all I saw were engine effects, no hulls. So I uninstalled the Raptor and Viper and reinstalled from the original files. Now my saves games (regular save and autosave) won't load at all.
Am I totally screwed or is there a fix? PLEASE help as I am very far in the plot and I would hate to have to start over as I have used the MKVII for most of the game and I will be hard pressed to find a save file with another ship.
Does X3 actually say the files are corrupted.... if so, I think you lost the data from my experience, - but ask Cycrow his 'Problems with ship installer thread.' just in case..
Hi, I've just downloaded and installed a few of the models (Galactica, Viper MkII and MkVII) and they look fantastic, but, can someone suggest a suitable weapons load out for the Galactica?
It comes the GPAC's now, but I have wanted to outfit her with mass drivers once I get her. I tested her out on a seperate file and, as is typical for capital ship battles, she brings the FPS to a screeching halt. That was without an escort of vipers and raptors too!
