2. You can turn the repair laser on by choosing easy difficulty OR use custom and just turn the laser on. Otherwise i think its just ship yards(i personally use marine repairs mod, doesn't help much in the beginning, but once you get a TM or Carrier, with marines they do the repairs for you on the ship itself, and docked ships. (TMs are pretty cheap and so are untrained marines, so i guess you could go this option early).
3. I don't think the game starts are currently "balanced". There are no plot quests in 1.2a(will be in 2.0).
4. I think you will start to see more quests as you rank up.
5. Dunno, i like to explore the universe myself without guides so have not looked for one myself.
6. Yes there board able(they also bail), and yes there reverse-enginerable.
7. Sadly the complex construction is the same as vanilla(they added new factories and all that kinda stuff, but the complex network itself is the same).
8. There are NO plots in XTC 1.2a at all*not even the TC ones*. I believe they will put there own plots and quests in in 2.0.
9. This im not to sure about on default. I believe there is still a crash fest without the bounce mod. The bounce mod does alot to help mass fighters/drones to live through a fight.
