Nope taht was only during the SSC.
Maybe at a later date they will put it on sale / free DLC, but nothing sure.

sorry if i'm being stupid
i have a steam game (for achievements and DID) and a off the disk game for normal play does this mean that i can load my normal game with the steam thing, get the extra sector and then go back to playing my normal game with out it counting as modified

That is exactly what I have done with my main game.

It was a disc install.
I loaded the game into the Steam DLC version .
Got the new sector.
Then saved.

It now plays within the updated disc version without the Modified Tag.

afaik , it is the only way , without modding , that you can get the extra sector.

If I restart in version 3.1.1 , from the disc version , I do not get the new sector.

But note that you won't get the new sector. In the german forums we have already discussed that, the patch only makes it possible to connect your disc install to STEAM, nothing more.
That is due to the fact that the corresponding file in the Mission Director is missing, so you have the map for the sector in the patch, but the game can't give it to you. I've already expressed my disappointment with that in the german thread as STEAM users are now finally being favoured over other users.

Hi, dunno if this question was already done but since I bought X compilation on Steam this summer and I use primarily linux desktop I'm asking if it is possible download the linux client and play using the data from steam folder (I also own cd versions of X2 and X3 included in pc game magazines). I can provide, if necessary, CDs serial numbers or Steam information to verify my purchase.

P.S.
This was possible with Hacker Evolution, bought on Steam this summer too. The developers were so kind to let me download the linux client. Hoping in the same result

True you do not get the new sector if you do not already have the DLC.

But if you have got the DLC , you can add the new sector to your current game game and then continue from the disc version , by using the method outlined.
However there is a mod ,by Aro, that gives you the DLC sector.

But yes, I agree that the DLC from Steam, or any other future DLCs , ought to be made available in a final patch for the disc version.

Whether or not this will happen remains to be seen.

unfortually its not possible here, as egosoft didn't have anything to do with the linux version, the same with the mac version.

it was handled by a different publisher and developer, so u'll need to ask them if its possible.
Linux Game Publishing did the linux port

It just makes your game compatible with save from Steam based games (including the DLC) if you were lucky enough to get it.

If you don't use Steam , or don't have a means of getting the DLC ,then you don't need 3.1.1
