I am on beta 7.6 of course.
I think I can answer that bit, the new counter was added in 7.60 beta 6, if you are still on 7.60 beta 5 you wont have it.
checking..you are right...why did not Steam update to lastest beta? :gruebel:
edit: Steam had canceled my beta submission after latest crash (not due to X4 but my cpu voltage tests :D ) I was still on beta 5

alt3rn1ty wrote: Fri, 9. May 25, 07:27 Right now mine is using 5050mb out of 5228mb that the game is allowed by Windows to allocate of my 6gb mobile GPU Card.
I have seen it use up to 5219 of 5228, and it slowly adjusts down/up as the game juggles the cache of more priority textures.
Update to the quote - I have a new laptop (see signature for specs).

With 12gb VRAM now and after much testing I cant make the game go any higher than 7.8gb usage (thats with Texture setting at Medium). Often I have seen the usage go down to 1.5gb, thats if I leave the game in SETA overnight while Terraforming and not travelling around so the game does not need to load extra textures or cache them, it just slowly dumps what it doesn't anticipate needing on demand in VRAM. 7.60 is frankly amazing at managing resource use.

Screenshot - Just about to land on my HQ while its Terraforming, map open .. FPS and VRAM bottom right ..

(I have FPS capped at 60 in NVidia control panel, to keep the laptop heat down and prevent any possible throttling, plus E-Cores disabled in BIOS, so just using 8 x P-Cores in the laptops Turbo mode).

I am one happy bunny now I have a laptop that can handle X4, but being able to accurately judge it with the games own FPS and VRAM counters is marvellous.

Edit : Forgot to mention, that screenshot is after running the game constantly for 6 days, no reloads. Terraforming projects through the night while I sleep, other tasks during the day in-between going out with family for shopping/visits etcetera.

Bumping this topic for the attention of anyone playing the new 8.0 betas'
The in game fps counter is currently the best representation of fps if you are using the new DLSS Frame Generation.

:o

I went as far as 10 GB (I've 16 GB VRAM on my 4070ti super) by starting a new game, doing the Hyperion quest and exploring for a few hours. It's a nice minigame to watch the mem counter. I like. :D

Just a note, while this will likely be the case when 8.0 hits stable, we don't actually know right this moment how accurate it actually is in the current beta; a number of people are reporting that frame generation isn't actually generating frames for display, while the in-game counter assumes they are being generated.
Unless otherwise stated, statements I make about the core game are surmised from observation of behavior.

Yep I'm watching the conversation, as far as I can tell quite a few people have not said they are using the in game fps counter, so who knows what they are actually using to judge it, some confusion as to what Frame Gen does on their hardware configuration, and theres a lot of different hardware being mentioned without saves/videos/proof of what they are seeing.

At the moment, what Egosoft Dev Maria said rings true imho. At least it seems accurate for me anyway, and has been that way since the in game counter was first introduced :)
