Re: Why have you guys traded metal for plastic?
From my limited interactions with lordmuck, I have a sense that if he wanted to insult someone, he'd do it without requiring interpretation. Everything else is in the eye of the beholder. Let's just choose not go there, how about? Because if we do, then for fairness we'd also have to look at how a certain company could've (and is continuing to) "insulted" their customers.

Wow ey! I really did not imagine people here could twist things in such a way to use what I said as a means to offend them..
Radcapricorn is totally correct tho, if I wanted, I think that if I actually tried to offend someone that it would not be left to interpretation/opinions/means to twist what I said which is a total excuse and method to actually derail the subject at hand.
If I see the models in such a way then that is my opinion, if you see the models ETC are gods gift to the gaming industry then I would not scream and make a song and dance about your opinion and get offended and say " you are offending my standards" ROFL.
My standards and expectations are driven from previous x sere, if the majority do not have such standards and anything goes, I for sure would not try and say that they are wrong or offending my sense of normal standards.
The models / explosions anything "artistic" related does not even begin to compare with x3 w/o dlc. So yes if I had to compare anything artistic from models/shape/style/texturing/effects etc x4 is something inline with <whatever> x4 has not progressed in this sense it has gone the opposite direction in terms of the models/shape/the thought process behind most models are also illogical and does not make any sense from previous iterations of X. If you compare x2 to x3 you can see a massive improvement.
So if this is offensive then I honestly cannot imagine how people actually go out side without pausing every 5 seconds complaining that they are offended.
I 10000% know that they could have done far better, which is why I am being honest and not sitting quietly here. Its because I want Egosoft to continue to grow and strive more forward not backwards. So if I bash then its through respect not disrespect.

Funny, cause it looks like from the quote that you are 10000% comparing with what you can do. Show us your ship mods, that we may offer similar critiques.

Continue to derail the subject so I shall say this one last time. I know they can do far better from looking at what they have created previously. Now please stop trying to twist words.

Oh sorry, I misread "they could have done better" and thought it was saying "I could have done better". I am totally wrong, sorry about that!

Re: Why have you guys traded metal for plastic?
What gets me a little bit is people saying "oh but look how much detail there is"... It does not bloody matter. Most of normal gameplay time, you will never, ever see those details. At all. You're in the cockpit, they're on the hull. Perhaps on the hull of another ship. That's at least a few hundred meters from you. Moving relative to you. Probably fast. There, most small details gone thanks to angular size, motion, and LOD. What's left of them (if anything) only spoils the view, because game lacks proper modern AA techniques, and they end up as crawling flickering specs.
They're only good for beauty still closeup shots. But last I checked, this game wasn't called Gawking Simulator.
So you're left with large features. From a few hundred meters, who can tell apart an Ides and a Vulture? Or Falcon and a Nova? Falcon and Courier (such an original name, by the way)? N and L? Osprey and Minotaur? It gets a little bit better for larger ships, as the silhouette is easier to discern (except beats me how to tell apart a Sonra and an Incarcatura, or the Teladi mushrooms). So what's the next prominent "feature"? The huge, flat, square and ugly dock. Or docks. Because that's what design was sacrificed to, as they wanted this "seamless" landing on ships, and these open exterior docks became a "solution". Next come the large turrets which look, especially on Paranid ships, completely out of place, as if slapped on with hot glue. Again, because they have to be, because "modular". X3 had very little of such restrictions. Heck, some ships had "hangars" that were literally that typo "hangers" - docked ships were "hanging" off the sides. And nobody cared. Because the ships looked cool. Most of them, anyway (except the Eclipse, I think X4's got one over here, but only due to the intercourse with the Nova). So did ships in Rebirth.
At this point, in X4, it doesn't matter how "metallic" or "plastic" they look. If it looks like a stool, or a hair dryer, then that is how it looks. Plastic or otherwise.

Re: Why have you guys traded metal for plastic?
While I miss the ATF and Terran ships, it doesn't really make sense to compare their appearance to this game when they're not in it. It's not as if they were very similar to the other races in X3 either.

I like the new ships just fine. I just wish there were many more of them. That is the only thing I find a pity.

Re: Why have you guys traded metal for plastic?
I think the reason is because the paints applied to the surface are meant to be plastic in some cases? As opposed to the largely unpainted or poorly painted ships of X3.
In X4 Some paint jobs look more metallic than others.

Re: Why have you guys traded metal for plastic?
Lordmuck, if you think this here is not insulting, then i really dont get your way of having a conversation.
The thread started with a question about the metallness of ships and derailed into a ship bashing session.
Been there, done that.
I am confident, that the upcoming ships are better recieved.
EDIT:
Yes @Imperial God, teladi paintjobs are in general less metallic compared to argon or paranid ships.
Having an opinion and voicing it is one thing, pushing down everyone involved and comparing with beginners of ones craft is not cool.

There are expansions coming. Certainly this means more new ships.
If you want to go fast, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.

Re: Why have you guys traded metal for plastic?
There is a group of players who want to push their agenda that X3 (after years of fixes, expansions, refinements and polish) is better than Foundations. Even unfinished, X4 is the better game by a mile.linolafett wrote: ↑Wed, 3. Jul 19, 09:40 Lordmuck, if you think this here is not insulting, then i really dont get your way of having a conversation.

It doesnt have to be an agenda, just a personal preference and this is totally fine.

That's fair enough. Posting first thing in the morning before coffee, not a good idea.linolafett wrote: ↑Wed, 3. Jul 19, 14:17It doesnt have to be an agenda, just a personal preference and this is totally fine.

Re: Why have you guys traded metal for plastic?
In my opinion, this really isn't a fair comparison. Again, which version of X3 are you talking about? If you want to compare X3 to X4, we should look at the original version of X3 vanilla. Not TC, not AP and not with mods.radcapricorn wrote: ↑Wed, 3. Jul 19, 16:34You can stick to it all you want, it won't change the fact that X3 is way more appreciated than X4. Just check stats on Steam and GoG. So your miles seem to be negative![]()
The original version of X3 was superior in some ways, but inferior in others. The things that were superior however, are those things which we will most likely see in X4 in the future. On the flip side, the things superior in X4 you will never see in X3. Things like more ships, more diversity with factions, more factions, more sectors, etc that make X3 superior are all things which will eventually be in X4. The only thing I am concerned about with this is the weapon and other equipment diversity. Not sure if we will see a huge change here in X4 but I hope so.
I don't really see what people think is so much better about X3 though. At the core of both games, things haven't changed much except that X4 has gone even further. What is really different from the original X3 vanilla and the X4 as it is now other than the things I already mentioned? I think people are really just looking back with rose tinted glasses here. Is what made X3 better in your mind the extended development and expansion over the years? Well, again, you shouldn't compare that with X4. Is it because it was more difficult to make money in X3 and you believe this gave a greater sense of accomplishment in the long haul? But then, the whole idea of X3 was to take forever to build up to a certain point and that was the game because once you did build up to that point there was nothing left to do. Whereas in X4, it doesn't take nearly as long to build up, but at least once you do you can take part in actual wars.
Let's discuss because I have been thinking of how I can improve the game through modding.

Re: Why have you guys traded metal for plastic?
Super agree with this. I don't have many criticisms with X4, and a lot of them boil down to there not being as much "stuff" - sectors/ships/factions/etc, which is bottlenecked by art resource. What there is though, I do like.
