Yeah...I'm sure of it. I saw your locked topic in another forum, Nanook. What I don't get is how the game is made to be "modded" and "scripting" done to it so it's not like the game or saved games are hacked. I find all my modded/scripting hints & tips right here on EGOSoft' forums so you guys know about it.

One would think that proper etiquette would be to warn players of the game that saved, modded games will NOT WORK with patches. THEN....give the players AN OPTION to download the patch AFTER they have completed the game. Don't download it behind their backs thinking you are doing them a favor.

I have 161 hours (per my steam client) into this game and that's pretty much shot to hell now. *sigh*

Sorry but this is your fault, if people would stop using fake patching as a way to mod X it would not be of any consequence other than the need to adjust the mod. People using fake patch mods AND steam are asking for trouble.

Still, there was a news pre-announcing the patch, which should have given a heads-up.

MFG

PS.: For modded games there is also the option to move the installation to a folder outside of steam and used the no-steam.exe available to all registered users.

Well as Egosoft don't officially support any mods/scripts how can they know which ones will break a save game after a patch. Being on this forum compared to anywhere else on the Internet means nothing.

Its a risk you take when you modify your game. What people should do if they do modify there game is turn off the auto updater in steam (again nothing to do with Egosoft). So that they can wait for the all clear from the mod authors before updating there game.

- Fixed several RRF issues

can we get any details on this? and does this mean RRF is now back to fully functional?

- Fixed exploit in freight transfer menu

what aspects have been fixed? is this just bothersomes "freight drones cant handle negative numbers" only or does it include the fact we can get PBC's from LTs as well?
find me on Steam
check out Roguey's Wiki - still under development

Ok...I'll give you the "how do they know what is modded" fact. (mainly because I am a DBA in a software development company and it is virtually impossible to know what has been done to files not controlled by the development company...in other words my saved game.)

Auto-updater in the client. I wish it wasn't needed. I have turned off the auto-updater (I think) to avoid this from happening again. And unfortunately I know I'm not alone in the "unhappiness" that my saved games are ka-bluey.

Am I angry with EGOSOFT? No, no, not really. I am upset I'm forced to use the client to play their game that I paid for. I am angry at myself for letting this happen. But live 'n learn. I'm not trolling, just frustrated & I'm venting. Please understand this.

Lesson learned. Learn from my mistake everyone! :)

I still look forward to X3:Rebirth with baited breath.

Now I'm off to restart my game. *deep, heavy sigh*

From what I noticed we now get an entire fleet of RRF ships showing up :) I accepted a Xenon patrol mission and got 6 or 7 RRF ships jumping in and starting to get in the way of my missiles.

FYI there is a nosteam exe made just for people like you. You can make a copy of your game and use the nosteam exe that way it cant update your game and you can still update the steam one so you can see if your saves will work or not.

It would be silly to play a heavily modded game and let steam mess with it.

Wait, so it's fake patches specifically which cause this issue?

They can do yes. If a patch contains a new .cat/dat file this will overwrite the fake patch when steam updates the game causing all sorts of problems. Same as you would get if you update or uninstall a mod incorrectly.

If you have a corrupted save and you had a fake patch try putting the mod back as the fake patch and overwrite the latest patch .cat/dat. You might be able to save your save.

Then either wait for a mod update before patching or uninstall the mod
and then patch. It may even work if you install the mod as a fake patch again but as the next highest number (I think 4) now.

Those suggestions will only work if the patched contained a new .cat/dat file. I can't remember if it does and im on my phone at the moment so can't check.

fake patches can cause 2 problems.
first is that they might get overriten if they are the same number as the new patch. Which means you no longer have the modded files available causing the save game to seem curropt.

the other is that you have fake patches higher than the new patch which override the new patch files with older versions causing you to have a mismatch between files.

the first is fixed by reapplying the mod after the patch.
the second is fixed by updating the mod to work with the new patch

@werewolves?
If you have to post the plot start requirements, then please use spoiler tags. There are some people who want to find out these things on their own without stumbling over them in the forum. <Done. Alan Phipps>
