Sure. I suppose its just imposing a method to engineering/manufacturing then. Where in all realistic terms you may only want to make 1.

Not really. 1 unit of shielding serves to "hide" just one unit of cargo.

Not for my intended useage (click on icon for info):

Though you are right that CBS traditionally would have to be made in batches to make the prescribed use sensible. So maybe manufacturing methods are attuned to batches? The stock levels for the current suppliers dont really support that idea however.

Compromising for batches of 10 the resources could be as follows:

Crystals x 2
Nividium x 1
Teladianium x 10
Computer Components x 2

Average resource cost = 27,796 so a unit cost of 2,780. (168 Profit or 6% per unit).

Of course CBS could be made at a loss for use, but then I wouldn't expect it to be made as a commercial product then. Even if resources where sourced to make the intermediates or products bought at minimal price. But the suppliers dont really have that manufacturing base apparent.

However, considering the non-existant supply this may be the practical constraints for the lack of its availability. In which case costs might not have to be constrained by sensible market values. And of course the suppliers may want to make the product available at cheaper than cost to enable consistent regular traders in other more nefarious products they deal in, e.g. Squash mines.

I'd just like to keep things simple is all and not assume any extra added lore.

Of course, you could always pirate it from other vessels or get lucky with accidents/casualties for supply. Though I would like to have a limited capability to make it.

(Apologies if all this extra information can be viewed as spoilers, but for a Poll you need to use this forum. Could a moderator please move the post if deemed warrented?)

A single unit of Cargo Bay Shielding is nothing more than a slice of cheesecake wrapped in felt.

The physics behind why this acts to protect from scans is still under research.
