I did what you suggested and moved the font to the desktop. I tried loading GIMP but the same error comes up. What's more, now most of my computer text is a smaller, different, harder to read font. When I try to put it back into "fonts" it says that MS Sans Serif is already installed. But it's not in the fonts folder.
I have started up my computer again after a weekend holiday and all the text is back to normal. I'm just going to give up on the GIMP thing. It's causing other problems on my computer as well; such as JEPG images not opening the way they're supposed to. If anybody has some final ideas then please tell me soon before I uninstall the thing.
Naa. I can't really be bothered of the hasel doing that. I'm going to give people 3 days for other ideas as this the CU forum is really unpopular (I don't know why).
My computer runs with WIndows 2000 prof. edition and there was no error when i installed it. you said that you use win 98. When my father was searching for a graphics program, i showed him GIMP. he wanted me to install it on his computer aswell, but when I tried to install it on his computer, the same error as yours happened. why I`m writing this ?
My father uses windows 98.
I suggest there is a relation between your error and your Windows.
Probably Gimp simply doesn`t run on win 98.
If one of your friends uses another windows version you should try to install it on his PC to prove my idea. you should also try installing on another win 98 system.
I got GIMP from a PC world mag and tried installing it and now it works . I also got another image editing program from the PC world dvd called Image Filtre. It's alot less complex than GIMP so I think I use this for my start in image editing. I got them both from the april version if anybody's interested (especially Xanthas).
I think I'll use photo filtre for my progects. I like it's approach more and it's easier to use. For any other first time wallpaper makers out there go to www.photofiltre.com. I'm pretty sure it's not shareware to download. The one I got in PC World (6.2.0) isn't anyway. I'm experimenting with editing some pictures that I got from wallpaper sites and enhancing them.
I have never created a wallpaper but I have created banners using GIMP.
My process is simple..
Create an image the size you want, for a banner it uses to be something like 390x100 or similar..
Get a cool background you would like to use..
Put the background or the part of the background you want in a layer. Add other things like text or images into other layers.. then add some nice effects and how layers interact with others until the result is kind of ok
