I think it extremely unlikely as well. Removing other ships would go against the theme of every X game since X-Tension. It would also go against a few quotes:
We want to keep the sandbox-character of the game, a game where I set my own goals, where I can freely develop,
You can't really freely develop in one ship, now can you?
Here's another quote:
There are very big space stations with a huge number of ships, and rich life and a lot of details and our goal is to bring a certain credibility to that life, that you really have a universe where you experience a life of thousands or even millions of people that all have a daily life and when I do something with them, when I do missions, when I trade with them, when I build stations for them, then I change the universe. In the beginning I can do that on a very low level and later on I can do this to a higher extent.
I'll pick it apart peice by peice as it is fairly long.

So, we know that there are a lot of ships. This could mean ship types, or actual numbers of ships. If it is the former, why have so many ship types if the player can't use em'? Also, "rich life and a lot of details". What's the purpose of having such technical details if you cannot explore them fully?
when I do missions, when I trade with them, when I build stations for them, then I change the universe. In the beginning I can do that on a very low level and later on I can do this to a higher extent.
So, this also implies a system where you can continue to develop, and develop, and develop until you have massive empire - that would be pretty hard to balance if you could only have one ship, wouldn't it?
In my opinion, it would make it much more difficult to make the game
playable if you could only have one ship! They would have to balance it so it isn't too powerful early on, while still seeming plausable; hence, a smaller craft. Then, it would have to become an all-powerful ship that would go well beyond the role scope of
any ship of that size while still being feasable in the universe. No, I think you can fly other ships. It only makes sense imo.
Although if we can't fly capital ships, I share everyone's sentiments - we better be able to dock with em'!
All I hope for (well, not
all I hope for

) is a more realistic docking system. For instance, I think its quite strange that you can fly straight at your capship only to suddenly, with *no* transit time, be docked and flying the ship (and vice-versa). You should be able to actually land/dock, and choose when to exit your ship - if you even want to! You may only want to dock to give you some time to recharge the batteries (in a literal and otherwise sense). If you leave, you assume your commander status on the bridge, etc; things like that.
Although it wouldn't be too good if another capital ship decides to blow out the hanger bay while you're still inside...
