i just wanted to say i hope Ego does as well (relativly) with Rebirth as CD Project has done with witcher 2. both in sales and the quality of game.
before anyone flames me!!! lol i know they are two differrrent games in two different genres but my point is that the small independents are kickin the games from the giants like EA out of the water because they are not panderering to the COD kids! "cough" DA2"lol
keep up the good work Ego!

I used to list PC parts here, but "the best" will suffice!

At the end of the day Egosoft appear to have a business model and development cycle which utilse a core game engine for many years.
Are they going to postpone muilt-threading, 64bit memory addressing and DX11 support in their new game engine? I would think only if they can't get it working in time, or they can't justify the development costs...
No point bankrupting themselves.
But when all is said and done, you know X:R has a high probability of being a damn good game, in Egosoft we trust.

I wonder what happened to station building. If you can add your station as a module to a larger NPC controlled station most of the trading can happen internally. Could be something like that: a main station (city) connected to the trade lane, on which you add your station. And that you can also own hotels / restaurants or whatever in this 'city'.
Should make it easier to manage a station, since you don't really need TS class ships anymore, except for ore/silicon type products and products not available at the station. This alone should speed up the game (less TS ships...) but makes the universe feel a bit empty....
Hope the next batch of info we get has something about this kind of stuff in it....

2006 post part of the encyclopedia
I just noticed this quote, from 2006.
Sound familiar? X-Encyclopedia cliff-hanger familiar?[Do you want an X4?]
X4 yes but with a few changes this time
put it a few years in to the future lets say 60 orso and have something intirely different like for example the anciants that have disconected every gate in the universe cutting off everybody

Ha, I sent an email in 1998 or so to Blizzard suggesting they have Ner'zhul come back as a henchman for the Burning Legion after a jaunt in the Twisting Nether. Lo and behold: The Lich King.
Sadly I don't even remember the email address I used for that; it was so long ago we still used a dial-up connection.

More likely as long as the age of the Universe.Apsody243 wrote:You are forgetting for that to happen the monkeys need to type for thousands of years.
I believe this "nine billion names of god" theory has been disproven, the reason being the monkeys' typing wouldn't be truly random.
Speaking of random, and to stay on topic, I hope the RNG used in X:R is good enough.

I have to say that X:R does remind me too much of Reunion
Maybe something like X:RB?
Nah, too redundant.
Anyway, back on topic; a good RNG would be nice. However, to the best of my knowledge there was never a RNG in any X game. Are you saying to introduce a new mechanic? If so, it would have to be really good otherwise it would disturb the immersive-ness of the universe (if that's even a word)

There has always been an RNG. There are plenty of occasions when the game has to make decisions at random. Missions for offer are generated and allocated to ships and/or stations at random. Stations are destroyed by GoDmodule at least partly random, and replacements are created at random.

X does have a Random Name Generator, of a sort. Most of the AI names you see (doesn't include plot-related names) are generated by generating random combinations of pre-defined initial, middle and final names.
It would be nice if this could be extended to ship names (which is what I suspect you are getting at), and things such as random-generated systems and planets.
