thats per sector thou, so if the mission is 4 sectors, u could get over 1000 exp

its not enterily luck, its just based abit random, i dont like completly fixed amounts. But it is based on the level and number sectors.
however, it should never be that much different, are you sure your reading the exp correct ?
on level 1 (cadet) for a 4 sectors, your exp should be between 600 and 1000

FURTHER EDIT:both had 3 encunters

ZoT thats a bug that i've so far been unable to find a cause of, in the latest version it seemed to disapear, but i guess its just now less likly, so ill try find the cause for it, i havea few ideas on a fix.
If the mission doesn't end, you can simply forfite the mission by flying too far away from the leader.
u could try flying to about 4.5km away from the leader and flying back close, this *might* kick start him again.
to check your rank you need to goto the ships addinional commands, on any of your ships, goto the command console, then goto the addional command slots which are below the auto pilot and turret commands. Then select either view guild status or miltary status. Guild status is for all the guilds and miltary status is for all the races miltary

Cycrow, I did 1 mission, I stuck real close to the leader, jumping merely 1-2 seconds after him.
At one point, he jumps and immediately I hear the voice comm to attack. I jump through and I immediately get the "too far" failure message. I check the sector map and about 10KM to the gate is a pirate ship.

Syndrome, not even close, my oldest script is the bounty hunters guild, that was release a year ago, i released that a few days after the release of X3 
but im still going to be working on this one, lots of new missions to be added and a full pirate/yaki miltary.
the problem with ships getting stuck at the center im aware of, but not sure yet whats causing it. There isn't much you can do really cept for failing the mission by moving to far away from the leader. What sector was it in, so i can try and test it.
Arcana, have u made sure ur have the latest version, that problem should have been fixed, also, the attackers shouldn't appear until u've gone through the game, the leader should wait on the other side of the gate, unless its getting confused with other pirate ships in the sector
