ObsidianAnt did a great job with the stream earlier today as well, there's a lot of insight to the game from this one: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/342193442

Thanks to Egosoft for letting some streamers get hold of early release builds :)

Nice stream by OA.

I'v now pre-ordered the game.

BTW It's easy for OA or any other streamer to miss something on screen or spoken when he is also reading a chat room that's bombarding him with questions & requests.

It's an unusual move in this day and age of companies forbidding review until after the official launch, in order to capitalize on the hype and secure as many pre-orders as possible. I have no idea how this marketing strategy will work in the "big picture" sales sense, but I'm pretty impressed as a long time player who was there when XR launched. That particular launch was basically the perfect storm that blew up within ten minutes of people firing up the game and finding the first of many many problems and let-downs. As such, Ego's strategy here is the polar opposite, eschewing the hype and giving various youtubers free reign to show off the game for good bad or indifferent for as many hours as they liked, more or less proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that the uncertainties created by XR are now firmly behind us, and that the X games are back.

I had no reservations concerning my pre-order a few months ago, but it was still very nice to see it justified on that stream.

I think it has been a marketing masterstroke. After XR many people, myself included will never believe a single unverified word Egosoft say. But Ant I trust because I’ve watched him for years and listened to his views on games I’ve played. He’s honest, analytical and a big fan of the genre.

Getting him to stream was a genius move.

Criers are always going to cry :P I think the stream was fine beside the tech blunders at start with using an non compatible capture (dx vs vulcan) but its no big deal, have to say Ego did the right thing - Give some real in game play to the ones in doubt and Obsidianant is a good choice for the space sim game type. Already pre-ordered as Ego always done good job with their titles post release and never been unhappy in the end - Rather the opposite (yes that also includes XR, sure its not 100% x game but they never said it would be. Its different but today very much playable and enjoyable)

I've already bought the game so I won't be watching the streams, I don't want to ruin my own surprises.

Kudo to Egosoft for getting it out to the streamers for extended plays. For me, the single largest motivator for buying games I'm unfamiliar with is streamers showing game play so lets hope this move reduces some of the anxiety of the older players and brings in some new titans of commerce and war.

What was up with the glowing green balls streaming out in front of his ship constantly? Lord, I hope that's something that can be disabled.

I think those were the docking guide-lanes. Follow them to the landing pad.

It wasn't "constantly", it was when he had asked a station or ship to allow him to dock and it shows him where to fly to get there. It was hardly intrusive at all.

This was the LONGEST video stream I have ever watched, enjoyed every minute. Thanks to the Devs for answering the questions and giving hints to OB.. Only 26hrs to go by Steam clock, (YES I know that is only the Steam clock that can be changed)... Be REALLY nice if we could preload

Was not able to watch the live stream but went back and watched the upload--which has the last two hours of what, I believe, is a four-hour stream. The game looks amazing and is reminiscent of X3. The menu system and map were nice and clean, and I really like that you can buy a ship that is preconfigured (as opposed to having to outfit it). I did notice two things I wanted to ask about: (1) it seemed like there was a lot of pop-in from the nebulae effects that gives a sense of speed when in super-cruise (I know that is probably the wrong term), as well as on bits and pieces of stations. Is this something that was made more apparent from streaming the game? I ask because I do not really watch Stream's or Let's Plays very often and am not sure if these are artefacts created by the heavy CPU\GPU load. (2) Auto-pilot took the poor guy into an asteroid. I used auto-pilot a lot in X3 so I could take in the scenery and relax to the amazing sector music. Based on what you have seen and the content on this forum, does the auto-pilot seem competent?

A quick postscript: own and am eagerly awaiting installing the game. My previous comments are in no way meant to be critical of the Herculean efforts Egosoft has put into this game. I have no doubt this will be my GOAT (did I use that right?) game. Thanks again to Egosoft for your efforts on this.

Doesn't look bad so far (after watching a number of streams), however it's too early to be excited imho. Depends what the other mechanics of the game are like, specifically dynamic factions and empire building. From the things that I don't like so far:

- Don't really like the ship models (sorry!), especially the bigger ones such as freighters. Some of them look like big flying blocks.
- I think that I prefer the station models in X3-style.
- Walking on the stations- it still seems a bit pointless. Especially that the stations are so big, yet there is so little to do. Also- station textures and NPCs.
- Explosions- am I the only one to think that explosions look weird, as if they were in 2D?
- Hidden missions where we have to track the comms from the stations- flying around a station and staying close to its "walls" takes away the immersion for me. It no longer feels like being a pilot in his/her ship in a big space. Hopefully it's not mandatory, or there will be little missions in plots requiring to do that.
- There seem to be very little traffic comparing to X3, especially in the core sectors. Will the traffic increase as the economy evolve?
- DIfferent ship modes (travel, scanning) remind me too much of some arcade-style game. Magic scanning to reveal "secrets" is also a no-go for me.

Just listing those as a form of constructive criticism- by no means I'm trying to say that the game isn't worth looking into.

Watched about an hour yesterday and was real surprised by what I saw, and just tickled at how well it ran, and I believe he said that was an early version and not what we get Friday.

Yes real pleased by what I have seen so far!
