Of course, that was the purpose of the training, but I'm too <Insert trait here> to listen to all that. Hull opening 101?, Bah, just use a missile. Depending on the hull, you could go for a few Wasps or something.Reprograming and Hacking for Beginners? Bah, just use a missile. Disruptor sounds about right!

It's one of his standard rules. He can buy 1 marine for each pilot he turns in.mcjomar wrote:Hey guys, been following this thanks to Buck.
Quick question,
How does NS turn captured pilots into marines?
Or is that just a story thing, as the TC manual alludes to the possibility of being able to do it through some kind of "rehab centre", but otherwise.... I got nuthin'.
help?

Only if one of them is going to get married to his childhood sweetheart or retire after this one last mission.Gothsheep wrote:Cio t'Ktt and Gu t'Ktt? Brothers, maybe? This is going to end tragically.

Personally I'd far rather go down with my jaws clamped around a Boron marine's neck/tentacle/whatever with a jar of tartar sauce & some salt & vinegar in my hands...

There is a "legit" way:mcjomar wrote:Ohhhhh....
Dang.
It's just the I read you can turn passengers into slaves, and then the manual says that slaves can be turned into marines at rehab centres....
Well that sucks...
I've captured about 14 pilots, and was all set to begin capturing stuff.
- go to a pirate base, open your freight menu, highlight a passenger and press enter. There is the "Enslave" option so turn your passengers into slaves. And note on a paper the races of the passengers before you enslave them.
- go to a Mercenary M barracks and sell your slaves, then buy the same number of marines that match the races of the passengers you enslaved.
Credit to N-S for this, he used it in "Zen" I think...

It's time-honored tradition.Becuse it's been going on since Squiddly's time.
To get to love erudition, That is to say, training for boarding ops. Which is slightly less dangerous than the actual ops.
To stay alive, The lifetime objective for a marine.
Until you die. The most likely result for NS' marines.
And that’s the end of that. QED

Hah.

Isn't capturing one of each Xenon ships enough in a DiD game? Ever tried capping a K?adobis wrote:I was wondering about a new goal :
what about capping a Khaak Fighter, and succeed in finding 3 B Kyons Emittors to equip it?

Besides, once you combat rank is high enough Khaak ships start bailing and M1/2s dropping kyons so it's just a matter of time, not skill.

65 - Nelly
I was aiming to spend today doing some further recruiting and supervising some more construction so wasn't actually planning on getting into any trouble. But trouble it seems follows me around, and trouble it seems is, as ever, Q shaped..
http://dbbr17626.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/steve/65-1.gif
.. I hadn't noticed before in all the excitement, but whilst I was off with the guys pursuing Xenon forces across Teladi space this one was busy munching up my supply freighters. I've lost four to this one Q, two miner class and two heavy super-freighters. All in all that's cost me about six million in transport ships. This is even more irritating as the super-freightrs are only available from Ceos Sprite and that's a fair few sectors away which means replacements, aside from costing me a small fortune, will be a good while getting here. Anyways, a job for 'Pu239' I think, being the only bomber left with anything to fire..
http://dbbr17626.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/steve/65-2.jpg
.. a pyhrric victory at best. I'm going to need more Tomahawks too, that's me out now.
Later on and I've been chugging around the universe hunting for a few hard to locate items when I happen to find myself down nears Rhy's Desire. Not sure why but for some reason I was firmly convinced there was a Split shipyard off to the west in Rhy's Crusade so I decided to go visit, which involves a substantial trek to the west gate. As it turns out this is all a figment of my imagination as there's no shipyard there at all, not even an equipment dock, it's just a standard sector with a healthy economy based on supplying energy to the surrounding sectors. Lots of solar power plants, not a lot else.
Wholly unremarkable really, except this sector also seems to have a TL class ship operating as a Casino. Now you don't tend to see these guys outside of a core Family sector, in fact I don't recall ever seeing one, which makes this quite an opportunity. A TL class ship, and wholly unarmed. Sadly Blue and Purple wings are off elsewhere on a replenishment mission so aren't immediately available. Fortunately I have a whole bunch of MKII's on board and and now seems as good a time as any to field-test them en-masse..
http://dbbr17626.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/steve/65-3.gif
.. Well, a dozen anyway, but armed with PAC they can dish out quite a bit of damage, and certainly enough to suppress the shields on a TL that's not firing back. With 'Providence' closing in from behind with the latest batch of marines itching to prove themselves and the TL's shields down to 20% it looks like we're running nicely to schedule. Only trouble with using drones of course is the limited fuel capacity as they're rendered useless if their powercell depletes completely. If things continue as they are tho I'll have plenty of time to send in the troops and recover my drones for use another day. Of course when does anything ever go to plan?..
http://dbbr17626.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/steve/65-4.gif
.. For example, where the hell did this guy show up from? I certainly hadn't noticed it lurking in sector earlier, but given the paintjob on a Python and the general gloominess of this sector (kindof odd for a sector depending on solar power) it wouldn't have been too hard to have missed it. This does throw a bit of a spanner in the works as now I have to wrap up things fairly sharpish before that Python can bring me into PPC range, but the TL's shields are sub 5% now so if the captain of 'Providence' can manage to put the bottle down for two minutes, pods away!..
http://dbbr17626.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/steve/65-5.jpg
.. It's a tense couple minutes while the Python closes and we get to find out whether this new bunch of recruits can board the TL fast enough, but it turns out they did learn something after all and in short order the TL is under our control, and with 86% of it's hull remaining, which is pretty outstanding considering not one of them is more than 3-star trained in engineering. I'm sure it was a fluke. No time to question tho, transferring my jumpdrive over to the TL and a few e-cells I jump it back to the safety of PTNI, along with 'Providence', while I swing about and gun the engines to put some distance between ourselves and the Python which has just started lobbing PPC this way.
Safely thru the gate back into Rhys Desire and I'm away clean. So, back to that building..

Good job! The more I read your adventures the more I think that you've got a lucky charm (that works) somewhere. never seen a civilian TL out of a core sector (and never seen a TL carrying a PBG forge, like you did in Zen, and never seen so many things that happened to you
