Ah nothing like a little pre game mudslinging! Great sports tradition and all in good fun!
@Master of the Blade: I'm gonna whup ya buddy! I don't even know you but yer mum wears army boots!
Just razzin ya, good luck!
I think if I make it out of round 1 (which seems like a 50/50 shot) I have a good chance of cleaning up the rest of the competition.
WHy? Ammo based weapons do work IS and GCs are a proven winner, with the EBCs filling out the main guns on the fighters they should be able to bring down most mid sized targets. I think I have just enough fighters to be able to tie up the turrets of the larger ships and possibly even have a few survive the fight....DING %$#$! LIGHTBULB!
XFF2 COULD BE SURVIVOR DEATHMATCH!!!!
300mil to build a fleet and after each round.... only the actual survivors progress not the entire fleet!!! A lil more work short term but tournaments would be way quicker as they progressed!
For the sake of having real battles at the end, the whole fleets could be used for the final match, or let the players pick one ship from their fleet to add after each round. If the latter is used then this would allow players who had incurred losses early on to actually regain ships if the circumstances were right.
It would be a neat idea to implement next time or the next time anyways...

Perhaps even a salvage rule, if the battle ends within a certain time limit, the winner gets to add one of the losers ships to their fleet. Fast the win, the bigger the ship added. Or more of smaller ones. Say win in under 3 minutes, and you can get an M7, or a handful of fighters.

Assuming I get past round one and those scary Katanas... and assuming X2-Eliah with his Solano spam gets past round one as well... Let's just say, that outcome may not be as certain as some of you seem to think. Those Zephyri of mine aren't packing MDs for fun, ya know
And as a side note, the quad flak on both Shrikes ought to put up a good light show if nothing else... we shall see - it's the AI steering those Solanos, not a player coordinating their attack, remember that.
... Oh, who am I kidding

I do wish I was that certain of my victory. But frankly, I'm up against a very good fleet, which is pretty much anti-fighter with good survivability chances.
I'm just thinking the fighters will serve as distraction and the Flaks will rip my swarm apart.
Oh well. In any case, each of my bullets will sting them as hell

Well, can't wait for the combat to start up!
As for me... I think me vs AV will be really close cut. As far as I've worked out it's simply whoever gets their Panther in there first wins, really.

Oh, the tension is rising in the stands as we can clearly see the fans getting testy, right John?
You're right Doug, and I think it has something to do with the weather it's pouring rain!
Right John, how will that translate to the field I wonder? I mean there's no astro-turf in outer space, so it shouldn't affect the players traction!
Right Doug, but you haven't been a pilot as long as I have, us veterans know that a little rain can change the whole game!
Right John, you just made that up!
Right Doug, let's go down to Karen in the locker room, she's got an interview with one of the pilots for us! Karen?
Right John, I'm down in the locker room and I have a pilot here who agreed to an interview, Pilot how do you see round one playing out and what will your role be?
Uh well I'm sure we'll win, we've been practicing lots and moral is high. My role in the fleet is actually as a turret gunner so I don't get to do any flying.
Right, what kind of turret gunner are you?
I'm a class 3 PPC Gunner, I fire the left turret bank.
Right, and do you have any strategy you use as a PPC gunner?
I'll usually try to shoot the tiniest ships first.
Right, there you have it folks, PPC gunners like extreme overkill, back to you John!
Right Karen, thanks! So Doug, there are allegations that one of the players actually runs an illegal mog fighting ring? If he is proven guilty in court will he be allowed to compete?
Right John, that's really a touchy subject, I mean he knew it was wrong, but where he comes from mogs are actually a food...
Right Doug, look! The fleets are starting to enter the field!
No John, that's just a taxi.

And ladies and gentlemen, the tension is just about to reach the maximum!
We now have thirty three fleets waiting to follow orders and thirty three flagships in there bearing an eager commander waiting to unleash the fury of their fleet upon their opponent! Alas, only thirty two fleets are allowed into the final tournament brackets, so we already conducted a qualification match between Wildjames and Aro - sadly, the video footage of this truly awesome battle is still being processed by our hardware, please excuse the delay on the delivery of this amazing battle to your screens. Meanwhile, we can see that the commanders have already taken up the time-honored tradition of slinging some mud at their soon-to-be foes - all in good humor of course.
Summarily, it can be said that we do have quite the range of fleets. On the one side of the spectrum, we have a fleet relying solely on the sheer number of transport ships fielded in a bid to overload the targeting systems of it's opponents, closely followed by a truly awe-inspiring amount of the Solano M4+ OTAS design - of course, berthed to the required amount of military transport vessels further augmenting the fleet's staying power. On the other side of the spectrum, we have a fleet consisting of just two Osaka-class Terran destroyers augmented with some fighters - how this fleet passed the examination is yet unclear as the fighters have no berthing to deliver them to battle. A bribe, perhaps? What can mostly be seen however, is a mix of Frigates and Corvettes along with a healthy dose of fighter escort. It remains to be seen whether the specialized fleets will triumph against the versatile jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none fleets.
And I don't know about you, ladies and gentlemen, but I can't wait for that video footage of the qualifying match to finally be processed so we can all feast our eyes on the wonderful lightshow that is sure to unfold with that amount of Phased Array Laser Cannons mounted in Aro's fleet. What I am, however, most looking forward to, ladies and gentlemen, is the combat analysis - the other fleet commanders are sure to keep a close eye on the events during this match and to try and get their fleet captains to adjust their tactics accordingly.
...Right, that's that. I do believe the 728 minutes have passed by now? *cue impatient observer*
And since we're placing our guesses... I'll hazard a guess at the first match, Mutiny vs Le Baron - the sheer Solano spam ought to win out over the more balanced carrier battlegroup as I didn't see that much in the way of fighter defense bar the fighters themselves in the carrier battlegroup. The only question is, will the 30 Barracuda Sentinels be able to roast the opposition's Solanos before being shredded to bits or will they instead decide that they all like Sushi and barbecue themselves instead?

Youtube seems to not want the videos. At school, I tired uploading at it got stuck at 14% (40 mins left). At home, first night my computer restarted. Next day, power cut off.
I'm going to try again tomorrow. Do you guys mind if I continue with the matches even if the videos lag behind by a few matches?
