This seems to be a somewhat common Steamclient related issue. Something went wrong during download / patches. Verify your game files and it should be "fixed". Just make sure to never save your game if your client is marked as "modified" (as this can't be reversed).

(I'm playing on GOG and don't have that problem but there were some Steam users reporting just that)

Great advice, thank you! Indeed Steam identified a few problem files and redownloaded, and now fixed.

This 2y old bug is not fixed still :(

viewtopic.php?f=180&t=443743
I feel your pain at not seeing a bug you care about fixed yet but complaining about it in totally unrelated threads doesn't seem like it's going to garner any sympathy for you.
Looking over that particular bug I would guess that Ego has had to choose to prioritize other bugs that have a much more serious effect on gameplay than that one does. They appear to at least have acknowledged that that isn't the intended behavior so let them know you haven't forgotten about it in the bug forum once in a while and be patient. They have done a lot of work improving broken things in the game in addition to the new features they keep adding so as long as they know someone still cares about that one they should get around to it eventually.

X4: Foundations 5.00 Beta 6 now available

Today we have yet another new beta version of the upcoming big 5.00 update for X4: Foundations for you. 5.00 Beta 6 is now available for download, and you can find the changelog in our forums.

As you may have already seen, we recently announced the release date for the 5.00 update and the new expansion X4: Tides of Avarice. Both the new expansion and the free update will be available from March 14, 2022. If you'd like to support us, X4: Tides of Avarice is now available for pre-purchase on Steam and GOG.

If you're into the music of the X universe, there's another important date for you this week. That's because on Friday, February 25, we're releasing the soundtrack to X4: Tides of Avarice. You can listen to the preview on our YouTube channel and then add the soundtrack to your wishlist.

Thank you for your participation!

What is meant with icnreasing the Stellar output in Bright Promise & Heart of Acrimony II? Does it mean more solar power output? If so, that sounds like a neat change, adding more diversity in the universe.

If you don't mind me asking, did you find a way to target a ship in sight? Like in your aiming sight.
Besides closest target (shift + E), target object (T) and cycle (page up/down) which doesn't really work for me, I haven't found a way yet.

I would also be interested in understanding how you will use the new deselect target binding.

I feel like I may be missing something here :D

Thanks

I've never had a problem using T - target object. It targets the nearest thing to the reticle, though it does have a distance limit. If I really, really need to target something that's farther out, I do have to click with the mouse, but I do that very rarely.

As for the deselect - for me, it's really just about a clean UI. If I absolutely do not care about the thing that's currently targeted, I don't want the HUD to clutter up with information and a targeting arrow. This is particularly important when the targeted object goes through a gate and ends up in another sector, but still targeted. There's absolutely no reason to have it remained targeted, since the *object* is targeted, not the gate, so I can't even use the information to know where it went.

Ah! T never really worked well for me. Mostly when I fight, I try to select my target with T but usually end up on an asteroid or the wrong ship :|
For the deselect, I used to just click in empty space, not worst than clicking on my next target. I do see the point of it for a HOTAS setup though.

I use a HOTAS as well but there is still some control that I haven't mapped on the sticks. Time for another try :)

X4: Foundations 5.00 RC 1 now available

We're only two weeks away from the release of the new X4: Tides of Avarice expansion and the accompanying major update for X4: Foundations itself. We're therefore moving from Beta to Release Candidate (RC) versions, and RC 1 of 5.00 is now available for download. As you can imagine, we're not adding major new features at this late stage, and are concentrating our efforts on fixes and smaller improvements. You can find the changelog in our forums.

X4: Tides of Avarice - content creator videos incoming!
If you're not afraid of spoilers, you'll no doubt be excited to hear that the first videos featuring X4: Tides of Avarice content will be hitting the web tomorrow. A curated group of content creators has been given access to the closed beta version of X4: Tides of Avarice a few weeks ago, and have been playing this not-yet-final version. Starting from tomorrow, March 1, 2pm CET (1pm GMT / 8am EST / 5am PST), these content creators will be allowed to upload their videos. Keep your eyes peeled - or give them a wide berth, if you prefer!

Thanks a lot for the support in the beta testing phase!

I upgraded a running game from 4.20 to 5RC1.
In doing so, my combat rank and trade rank went down one level!

Is that intentional or a bug? ?? :gruebel:

Otherwise good job!

Absolutely nothing has been changed with regard to ranks recently. My guess is that you just loaded an older savegame than you realised. However if you have a 4.20 savegame where this actually happens reliably, then feel free to upload it somewhere and provide a link so that someone can take a look.

Thank you for your prompt reply :)

I installed x4 on 2 computers (1x offline).
The same save shows under 4.20 "ultimate magnate" and "battle ace 2nd class".
Under 5.RC1 (now RC2) "professional magnate" and "combat ace 3rd class" on!!

Strange...
I tried this on 5 old saves with the result that not always both ranks but at least one was downgraded.

..well.. not really important.

Best regards
