My interest for 'AAA' and pew-pew games *cough* CoD *cough is near zero. I much prefer thinking games that are slower and far more rewarding, such as grand strategy and 4x.B_O_L_T wrote: ↑Thu, 15. Re: X4: FOUNDATIONS - Release date, prices and more
It's a Steam-only release, so yeah they don't need to put any extra DRM in. It will authenticate via Steam servers like other Steam games do.
As with their previous X titles, I don't think they have any additional DRM and after a year they usually release a "no-steam" .exe for those who want to use it as well, which ensures long-term play-ability without relying on any authentication service.

Re: X4: FOUNDATIONS - Release date, prices and more
no, Steam is hardly "enough". It allows offline mode. And that's it. It means it's "easily" crackable. It's just the solid solution for "free".Vandragorax wrote: ↑Thu, 15. And second, when it's "Steam only" release. It doesn't mean it doesn't have anything else. Yes, technically Steam can be the only DRM, but you still use Denuvo, not DRM, true, but you want to ensure the Steam DRM is not easily disabled. Which normally it is.
uhm, they all had? I couldn't even play X3 for the first month because of starforce that never run on my PCVandragorax wrote: ↑Thu, 15. OK, stop there thanks. We do not discuss DRM here because it hardly ever ends well.

Re: X4: FOUNDATIONS - Release date, prices and more
When I looked at the pre-order announcement and on Steam I didn't see any benefit for pre-ordering the normal edition. Can someone confirm this. If there is no benefit I might as well wait for release and make sure the game is reasonably playable.

There is no discount on the normal edition. That's correct.

Re: X4: FOUNDATIONS - Release date, prices and more
Thank you. Looking forward to the game and I know Egosoft will support it for a long time however based on the past releases I'll wait to purchase it until it's in a stable and fun state of development. I might have been enticed to pre-order the normal edition, even if I had to hold off playing it for a while, if there was some benefits offered.X2-Illuminatus wrote: ↑Thu, 15. Halfway There
Just thought I'd say it: we're halfway through the month now, X4 is only 15 days away.

Re: Halfway There
This bothers my OCD... Who counts 15 days to half way lol. It should be 14 days as in 2 weeks then 7 days 1 week, etc. Shame on you!

Re: X4: FOUNDATIONS - Release date, prices and more
They're not selling a used car here, you can't expect a discount on release day.
Sure there could have been an incentive for owners of X3 and XR like me, but there isn't and I understand why. Personally I don't see £40 as a lot of money. The last meal we had was multiples of that and I dare say X4 will give me a longer lasting taste (see what I did there).
If you're short on funds look at it this way, visiting the cinema costs what, £5-10 ($10) these days? So you're paying £/$5 per hour of entertainment.
That means that if X4 delivers over 20 hours of entertainment, it's relatively cheaper than watching a movie. Ergo, value for money.

Re: 16 days and counting. :)
So as we are showing this age thing in numbers terms I am 62 on 26th November so you all know what I'm now getting for my Birthday right? It's interesting that you describe you have a back injury I myself had a serious car accident and my spine is seriously damaged too and I'm on the old Morphine so my gaming times restricted as I can not sit up for long periods of time. However I am determined not to let this prevent me playing this game when it finally gets here. With regards to being to slow to play games, I'm sharper than ever as it seems you gain in other area when other parts that beer cannot reach kick in lol. I'd even go as far as saying. I'm quicker than Billy the Kid was and smoother than a bar of chocolate. My brain feels sharper than ever though no doubt that will change in the coming years as the skins goes into tidal effect hehe.B_O_L_T wrote: ↑Thu, 15. I just hope that everyone who invests in Egosoft this time gets value for money as the last game we all know was very disappointing to say the least even with the updates it's continued to receive was their worse venture to date for many reasons. As long as we litrialty get more space to do stuff than the last game you won't hear anymore from me on here until their next expansion for X4 or X5 comes along in 10 years time... That's if I'm even still here!!!

Re: X4: FOUNDATIONS - Release date, prices and more
Well, after an absence of many years, the announcement of X4 has dragged me back. I've bought and enjoyed every game since x2, (yes, *every* game) but nothing has got this old man jiggling his wobbly bits as much as this latest announcement.
So, umm, woohoo!
