Letters after Xenon ships names

Post by MattPenfold »

I have noticed that Xenon ships quite often have a letter in brackets after their name, such as {B}, {BE} etc.

I have been unable to find out what these mean. Can anyone enlighten me please ?

If a new game is OK, it must have just been a weird bug with the save.

The new split m2 is available from a few split shipyards, the mercury sentinel from a few jonferco showrooms, and the new split m6 is only available by playing the plot or finding the research station its sold in.
Started a new game, cheated "all objects in encylopedia" and no new ships there.

Ok, plan B didnt work, time to move on. Reinstall the X3 in steam and do everything all over.

First off, and above all else, thank you for supporting a Linux build of these games. Devs like you guys give me high hopes for the future!

Now to my issue. I have no problems running vanilla X3AP on Linux. I mean zero. It's awesome.

However, a 3,0 specific build of the XRM mod has recently come out, and I figured I'd try installing it on the Linux build, since I almost exclusively played on it under Windows X3TC/AP. Everything seems to work great as far as I can tell, with two issues:

1) XRM adds a few custom start scenarios. A few of them have the pilot portraits turning into a random set of vertical color bars that change every time you select them. Example: http://i.imgur.com/MWvr4RB.jpg

2) Many of the custom starts, when I move the selector to them, crash the game instantly. No error message if launched from the console. Just BAM, crash to desktop. Every other start I've tried so far works flawlessly.

I had a few posts in the XRM release thread, and the dev is looking into it as far as he can (nobody else there seems to run Linux), but I have been asked to also post here in case it is something related to the Linux port as well. I understand if you can't really do much past the vanilla port, just mentioning it in hopes that I can narrow the issue down.

Thanks again!
For point 1 : Every time selecting custom start with striped image have this error :

Code:
======================================
Error. Tried to alloc 0 bytes.
======================================

For point 2 : Encounter the same crash when selecting game start with XRM but have this error :

Code:
WARNING: OpenGL Unsupported DXT level used, skipping texture l\true\startJS (fourcc = 1701536609)...
launch_xrm.sh : ligne 79 : 24509 Abandon (core dumped)./X3AP_config

Where can be find the dumped core to provide it ?
Seems like an OpenGL issue mayhaps? Which granted would be more of a Linux problem, but if standard starts work fine I wonder if we can track down whats being loaded differently in XRM as compared to Vanilla?

Looks like it has something to do with image compression.

Edit: Formatting.
Can you point us to the original message?
It *looks* like a driver issue, but without the missing information (hardware, kernel, driver version, etc) I can't really say for sure.

I'm currently trying to get my Windows save games (or actually, my Steam/X3TC running using Wine under Linux) to work using the native Linux version of X3:TC without much luck (most likely due to the large number of modes in my existing X3TC setup).
Maybe it time to start a new game....?

Are you running MBRR? IRCC the letters in brackets are put there by MBRR and it means the race starting with that initial wants that ship destroyed.

Is this something to be worried about? Is it still launching 3.0 even though the launcher says my game version is different?
I have found that, if you have multiple copies of x3, the launcher shows the version number of the original installation.

I'd get steam to verify the game cache, then check the date modified of files like x3ap.exe, 03.cat/dat etc. They should be the date you installed 3.0.
That must be it. All the files are correct. When I launch the game and get to the main screen it says 3.0 on the bottom right. So im satisfied.

From the Linux support thread:
timon37 wrote:Yeah there's only DXT1/3/5 and uncompressed support, and it aborts on anything else, so that should fix it.
So that should be that once the compression changes. I'd try making the changes myself if I had any clue how these mods work internally. I think the extent of my modding here was making a change to a text file in one of the cat/dat sets to extend comms range.

Ok. So I want to install some of the recommended scripts for AP XRM, or some scripts in general, but I'd like to know which are currently up-to-date and which ones work with XRM. I've tried using Marine repair, but that always seems to crash my game. And the MARS one is a rather difficult bugger as well. Any others you guys can recommend that work with the current XRM and AP versions?

Dr Bullwinkle has updated a few of the scripts and seem to work well.

http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=322735

Phanon has had an update specifically for XRM

http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?p=3862754

Pirate Guild and ADS (not Yaki Armada) seem problem free... can't confirm YA but I saw some posts which made me think twice before installing it.

At the startup screen for the game, choose Input Device. Uncheck "Display Controller Layout".
Cheers buddy, thank you very much :)

Installing this for the first time. In the OP, you say for MARS to only install the scripts plus the XRM addon data file (\t). What about the \t files that come with MARS? Should I install those?

Thanks in advance. Sorry for my noobishness.

That is the first-ever crash report for Marine Repairs.

First, make sure that you are using the current version. If you still have trouble, then please report what you did and what happened in the Marine Repairs and Training thread.

Noticed an issue between XRM and Complex Cleaner.

With CC cat/dat in X3AP folder (as suggested by paul) the Otas Shipyard sells a single Trade Dock and four zzPLACEHOLDER.
Without thoses files removed (as suggested by DrBullwinkle in CC readme) the Otas Shipyard doesn't sell any station.

I imagine the front page isn't up to date and removing the cat/dat was the right thing to do but who knows?

Did you install CC before or after XRM? In other words, what has the highest cat/dat number? XRM or CC?

XRM uses 07 & 08 while CC used 04.

Edit:
Removing the cat/dat leads to game crashes when loading a savegame.

Edit2:
My bad! The game crashed because of missing cat/dat it seems (03 and then 05). But the zzPLACEHOLDER are still here. Is there a way to remove them without starting a new game?

Edit3:
Okay now that's weird!
First I removed the cat/dat files and started a new game: no crash, no zzPLACEHOLDER.
Second I loaded a save an the game crashed (tried that three times).
Now that the files have been removed and all others have been renamed when starting a new game the zzPLACEHOLDER are here once again.

I am trying to continue a save game with XRM and I just installed the lastest version. The release notes say the Griffon and Mistral need cloning. What is cloning and how do you do it?

@Huillam - Neither the Complex Cleaner nor the XRM adds stations to the Otas Shipyard.

I suspect you are trying to use Enhanced Equipment Docks - that adds stations to the Otas shipyard - and you haven't followed the instructions in the compatibility notes section on the first page of this thread.

Use Cycrows Cheat scripts. There is a clone ship option in the main menu. Once you have cloned the ship, cheat destroy the old one.

Okay, so I guess I asked something so stupid that it doesn't even warrant a response. Sorry, I guess.
