I think that's it. You need to start a new game as although installing the new cat/dat files will replace some of the textures, much of the stuff will not be present, correct or will look weird. Sorry, probably not the answer you wanted to hear?

Try a new game and see if it looks better?

Oh Mother Of The Big Bang...this mod is so great that if a black hole swallowed the files it would shut down, filled with absolute joy for everything around it.

I tried it tonight because...why not? The screenshots looked nice. But they don't capture a fraction of how amazing this makes the universe look in-game. This mod changed the universe from looking like something detached, like out of a NASA press release, to a place of wonder, danger, beauty and serenity. The game looks gorgeous!

I've been hanging out in Home of Light for a good while, just cruising aimlessly at low speed, listening to the sector track, lost in myself just looking at space.

People who haven't tried this yet: You need to install this mod.

Mad, mad props Moonrat (and Connary)! Thank you so much for working on this and sharing it!

If only RL was a little less bothersome and EGOSOFT didn't keep giving me other distractions (err hmm) I'd be polishing it further... speaking of which ... :roll:

I am having a problem with the IEX Patch for the TC Plots for AP. As soon as I enter the Sector Zyarth's Stand my ship get's destroyed (even when you cheat jump into the middle of the sector) . Also the gates emitting a permanent bumping sound there.

Without IE, IEX and the comp. patch this does not happen.

The only other Mod I am running is the Xtra Ship pack, but this should propably not interfere with the map.

I shall have a look and let you know... thanks. I plan to issue a new release of IEX when AP 3.0 comes out. If you can't wait until then I can always give you a mini-patch in the meantime.

But could it be a Propblem with TC Plots for AP? The Map looks like this in game but when I look at posted TC and AP Maps on the web, there should be no connection east of Family Ryk. The Sector doesn't even exist on the normal AP Maps anymore.
edit: ok, disregard the Map comment .. from the TC Plots Thread:
-Zyarth's Stand is moved to retain a connection with Twisted Skies.

So it's most likely a problem with the Comp. Patch.

I agree it looks pretty nice, but it is so nasty on framerates if you have any real action going on like AP wars or XRM in general it becomes superfluous and not so worth it (on high-end hardware). The excessive darkness everywhere rapidly increases my rate of eyestrain so I don't even want to play at all.

I think I prefer having GPU power devoted to higher antialiasing, etc and spare CPU and memory devoted to interesting scripts and mods. Still, I commend the single minded focus on improving background graphics as the results are an improvement on the bleakness of Ego's space. If I was just playing a trading game I'd probably think it was worth it. Except for Terran sectors anyway.. those I really do feel like I am looking at some sterile pixelated old NASA pics with IEX.

Perhaps if you were to say where the sectors with graphics issues are, and provide a full list of the sectors which you feel are too dark, then I could look at them... you have to remember however out of the thousands of downloads of IEX & IE I haven't seen one complaint like this. I primarily built this mod for my own enjoyment. Altho' I try and accommodate people's feedback you can understand it's simply impossible to encompass everyone's likes and dislikes!

Looking back thru' your various posts, you seem to have a habit of posting on other people's mods. just to say this mod is... MEH!
Sort of a troll-lite... I'm all open to feedback but it has to be constructive and detailed otherwise it really is of no use at all.

Supporting other people who have given up their valuable free time to provide new content to this game is a worthy aim... depressing them by stating that their efforts simply aren't up to some high standard set by yourself is not.

In my current XRM + IEX game, with plenty of scripts installed, I don't have any major framerate problem. The only framerate problem appears in my home sector that has over one hundred stations working in it :P , and in the war sectors, which is expected. And I can't even say that I have a high end PC that can handle anything (a quad core of 2.4 ghz, Q6600, with a low end motherboard).

Regarding the light levels, I personally visited almost all the sectors, new (XRM ones) and old, and I haven't noticed any sector that had "excessive darkness", even in the sectors that were supposed to be dark. All the sectors have appropriate light levels.

Also, every sector looks awesome, including the Terran Sectors. I am playing a Terran Start (Terran Commander), and I love to travel through Terran Space.

So, Moonrat, no need to worry. Everything looks and works great!

Yeah, I will second what Dreamer2008 said. No framerate or lighting issues caused by IEX. Just excellent scenery.

Hi, I have to say that your work is mighty great. All sectors looks better. Sometimes when I want to make pictures the fog piss me of, but its more realistic so its ok. Only one sector I found something not perfect. Its Asteroid belt ... The mesh (hoppe that you calling the backround) on some positions looks like rasetrized or something.

On the OP there's this, you can use this without a new game start to test if you like...

  • For all those pilots who don't like foggy sectors this file needs to be placed into the main 'types' folder for TC and/or the '\addon\types' folder for AP.
    This file is compatible with all versions up to and including IEX 1.4a, plus all downloadable sub-components including XRMi & TCAPiex.

Mmmm... the background is the same as many others in the Solar System, may be the lighting is making the problem more obvious? The background was one of my earlier attempts and I will admit to having issues with it somewhat. The image you have included is too small to see the problem so if you can please PM your external email address to me we can then exchange "larger" images. I have had a few thoughts on changes to the asteroid belt in any case, so may be that's an opportunity.

After some initial befuddlement I think you spontaneously explode due to a large amount of rock in Zyarth's Stand which shouldn't be there... also the sector got mangled due to it's new 'address'. I've created a new 'rar' package and it can be downloaded here. Could you give it a blast and please let me know, thanks. :)

I've updated the IEX OP with a new version of the 'Terran Conflict Plots for AP' compatibility patch - TCPiex 1.4b

This contains two new gamestart menu screens plus a fix to stop the player ship self-destructing upon entering Zyarth's Stand.
