Overtuned Hyperion Vanguard

Post by jwigeland »

Original thread was locked due to necromancy so I thought I'd post again for those who may be interested. :)

Players often choose the Poisoned Paranid start since the reward for the opening mission is a Hyperion Vanguard (plus another ship that I can't recall). When the ship is given to you it comes with a random assortment of shields, guns, engine tunings, and equipment.

The cool part is the chance that your Hyperion will have more engine tunings than it would otherwise be able to carry (if you captured one, you could upgrade it 15 times to a max speed of 169.1 m/s). If you're lucky (or persistant) you can get one with a lot more.

So, I did a little experiment. Once I'd accumulated enough money to afford the treatment, I docked at the Boron station and saved my game.
I then spent nearly three hours playing: pay money, get ship, look at speed, load game. Rinse, repeat.

Each time you pay the equipment generated for your ship is completely random, including the number of engine tunings the ship has. Here are the statistics that I ended up with, displayed as Engine Tunings / Speed / number of times this configuration showed up.

12 / 148.8 / 30
13 / 155.5 / 21
14 / 162.3 / 23
15 / 169.1 / 19
16 / 175.8 / 22
17 / 182.6 / 12
18 / 189.4 / 14
19 / 196.1 / 7
20 / 202.9 / 6
21 / 209.7 / 8
22 / 216.4 / 2
23 / 223.2 / 1
24 / 230.0 / 0
25 / 236.7 / 1
26 / 243.5 / 0
27 / 250.2 / 0

Total reloads: 166

When I got the 236.7 I stopped since that's fast enough for me. Someone else did a memory hack to find the maximum tunings you can get are 27 (which is how I made up the fastest two at the end of the list).

Just thought I'd post this so people would know what they're up against, and especially to tell players that you don't have to settle for an under-tuned Hyperion. You can re-load a few times and get a over-tuned one without much trouble. Note that I received one that goes over 200m/s 18 times out of 166 loads, which is more than a 10% probability.

Acceleration is also overtuned in direct relation to top speed, but the rudder is somewhat random. It is possible to get a alightly overtuned rudder, but the top speed was more interesting to me so I ignored the rudder tunings. My 236.7 had a rudder that was less than the normal max so I had to buy one more rudder tuning.

I hope this helps!

I know this is a month ago, but I was wondering what the maximum rudder tuning was for it. Or does it not come with rudder tuning?

Unfortunately I did not keep track of the rudder tunings. If I recall correctly it can only go one or two ticks above maximum anyway.

Much more upside potential on the speed and acceleration.

Just because a thread is locked, does not mean we can't read it.
Using a decent search engine such as http://www.google.co.uk/advanced_search ... gosoft.com will help you find anything that has been discuss on this site.

The Ego search on this site though seems to be difficult to use for specific searches ,sometimes...especially for older posts.

The best Hyperion was the Pontifect's Yacht in Reunion, imho.

this might just be me dreaming of something that might not be happening, but if one where to obtain a Player HQ (something that i'm still lightyears from obtainong btw) and reverse engineer the Hyperion, would the re-productions of the grossly overtuned original also be translated to the blueprints?

I'm a first rank passifist and avoid combat where ever i can, still, i do strongly beleve in the words "better safe than sorry". And what would be more safe than an army of UT's dominating space in formula one Hyperions, ready to gank the first cluster of Kaach with a dirty thought.

Hehehe, this would solve the problem of UT's dieing, and just think about the proffits you'd get out of the huge cargo-bay the Hyperion posesses. Now imagine space with around 500 of those beasts running around. :D

I realy hope there's someone that would be able to tell me if this is possible or not. If it is i'm quitting my job and be playing X3TC 24/7

Sorry, RE-ing any ship gives you the basic stock ship. The bonus overtuning doesn't get included. Any over-tuned ships should be saved.
Duke's Buccaneers... I hate you so much... I am sooo demolishing your HQ when our business is finished....

There's nothing to stop you from capping a standard Hyperion and RE'ing a massive fleet of those. :)

Many would consider Springblossoms a better UT option because of the speed, though.

8 overtunes (26 total, or 8.0), unless it's changed since last time I looked at it.

You have to find it patrolling usually in Paranid sectors and board it either by spacewalk (hard) or m7m (easy).

The overtuned one is only available in the Poisoned Paranid start, so no. And as others have already said, you can get the normal version in any game, but you have to steal it from the Paranid.
Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

Has anyone ever made it to 250.2? Confirmed?

I thought about taking a couple of hours to try and get it, but I'm curious what the odds are. I get some idea from OP.. but I can't really tell if the progression is linear or curved.

Edit: I'll post my finding.

I myself never managed to get farther than 243 m/s with my own tries, but bernoud in the french forum once posted a Hyperion Vanguard with 250 m/s and 347 million credits as pocket money. But unfortunately all the three provided download links for unmodified save do not seem to work anymore.

That's pretty amazing still.

Ok, so it is possible. I'm going to try a lot over the next couple of days. I think my saves load a lot slower than OP, so it might take a while before I have a decent number.

This is my own data. Sadly I never made it to 250.2. After days of reloading I decided to keep it at 243.5. Sorry. It's pretty.. futile. I can't really recommend the countless reloads, unless you have a ram disk or something.

12 / 148.8 / 40
13 / 155.5 / 43
14 / 162.3 / 43
15 / 169.1 / 32
16 / 175.8 / 32
17 / 182.6 / 21
18 / 189.4 / 18
19 / 196.1 / 11
20 / 202.9 / 13
21 / 209.7 / 7
22 / 216.4 / 4
23 / 223.2 / 3
24 / 230.0 / 1
25 / 236.7 / 0
26 / 243.5 / 1
27 / 250.2 / 0

Total reloads: 269

It's interesting though. From the data OP provided I thought the curve would be more or less a hyperbola, but it's actually more of a sigmoid function.

I always want one with good engine AND rudder tunings. I found that the sum of the 2 kinds of tuning would never exceed 45. The most balanced one I've ever got is with 22 + 22.

That's a pretty good thing to keep in mind. I think I might reroll a few more times, see what I can come up with under 45.

Post by Tinysaur »

A few days ago on my FIRST hand in ( no reloads) i got a hyperion with 254 speed and 20 steering. If anyone would like me to share that save ( just after receiving it) then ide be happy to share it as i realise how stupidly lucky i am.

Its on X3 AP and has the XRM mod installed, with the coloured universe map mod aswell. :D
