Harrington Corp
Foreword:
Right lets go back to what I enjoy about TC and that's trading. Having another go at a trading DiD using the Humble Trader start. No real rules except from Xenon and Terran extermination, Might end up annoying Paranid and Split along the way but oh well, can't be helped. Anyway let's get this show on the road.
Rules:
*DiD
*Don't like Terrans
*Not overly fond of Paranid's or pirates either

Part 1: A trader's first steps:
Right lets see, I've got 9,129 credits, a Discoverer M5 and a Mercury TS. No use for the Disco at the moment so lets dock that up somewhere until I can find a use for it. Looking at the star chart it appears I'm in Herron's Nebula. Let's see what trading opportunities there are here.
Turns out not too many, but the local tech station needs some Cahoona badly so I head over to the bakery and pick as much as I can carry up, to sell to them. It's pretty slow credits hauling the meatsteaks but at least it's making a profit. Seems that the whole sector is dangerously low on energy cells (e-cells) though, which is a bit annoying as it's going to mean everything will grind to a halt eventually.
Luckily though for now, some traders just filled up the Cahoona Bakery I'm getting my meatsteaks from so I'll be fine for a while yet. Or at least until the prices on the other factory drop to low.
Which they eventually do. Deciding I need to find some Solar Power Plants (SPP's) to kick start the local economy I bring up the sector map, and spotting a sector to the north called Power Circle decide to head up there. Hopefully the name won't be misleading. Also decide to stop off at the Trading Station on the way there to get the engines tuned. I've got nearly 50k so should be able to max the speed and leave enough to continue trading.
Turns out the sector is aptly named, as there's a load of SPP's up here kicking out cheap e-cells. Grabbing a load I make the journey back south to drop them off where there much needed.
Several more e-cell runs and a ore run and I decide to call it a day. Tomorrow I need to look at getting a jumpdrive, but for now I need sleep.

Part 2: To jump or not to jump
Well lets see. I've got 124k so I could get a jump drive. Haven't actually found anywhere to buy one but everyone knows that Terracorp sells them, and there based in Home Of Light which is two sectors south. Well ok maybe not everyone but I do.
Not one to travel empty when I can be making a profit though I grab some cheap ore before heading south. Dropping the Ore off in Argon Prime I continue south and find Terracorp HQ. Well find is a bit of a ambiguous term, it'd be bloody hard to miss it. Once there I purchase the necessary equipment to almost bankrupt me. On the plus side though I now have a Trading System Extension, a Jumpdrive, a Best Buying Price Locator and a Best Selling Price Locator.
Unfortunately and bloody annoyingly no one at Terracorp has ever thought to stock the e-cells needed to power the bloody thing so now I have to trek back up to power circle, stopping on the way to pick up a Duplex Scanner in Argon Prime.
Right now it's time to get some serious trading done. Accept of course, while I was away getting a jumpdrive some the trade opportunities have disappeared. Figures. While trying to wait for some to open up I send the Discoverer down to Argon Prime where it'll chill at the Equipment Dock until I can make some credits to upgrade it. Then I'll send it to some sector miles away called Omicron Lyrae which the Argon government kindly put on my star chart. They want me to go help some Terrans but they can go screw themselves. Stupid bunch of stuck up xenophobic idiots. Anyway there's some cheap e-cells available now so lets move them.
Short while later I come across some guy in Home Of Light willing to sell his Mako M4 for 11,400. Now granted its at 52%b hull and probably doesn't have any equipment but still. What's the bloody catch? That's an amazing price, so I buy it, fix it up and send it to Argon Prime to be liquidated.
Jumping back up to Power Circle to continue trying to single handedly keep the Argon economy from crashing, I witness first hand why you shouldn't drink space fuel and fly, as some Mercury TS pilot flies straight into the SPP and blows himself up. Idiot.
By this time the Mako had been evaluated and I find out that, yes indeed, I made a profit. A hell of a bloody profit. 190k to be precise. Bloody stupid previous owner, not that I'm going to complain.
I will complain at my own stupidity though when I sell all my e-cells to a station in Home Of Light and have to make the bloody long trip back up to Power Circle. It did give me time to outfit my little Discoverer to send him off to Omicron Lyrae. Let's just hope he doesn't have to traverse a Xenon sector to get there.
Finally reaching Power Circle I decide to call it a day. My Discoverer is about 20 sectors away and still hasn't reached Omicron Lyrae so I'm bloody thankful I didn't decide to try and find it in my

Part 3: My new employee could explore better!
Right lets see, looks like its back to hauling e-cells for the time being, not much else to trade around here. Deciding to check on the Disco, I'm completely confused by what I find.
Apparently the magic little M5 has managed to traverse all the way to Omicron Lyrae without discovering a single thing in any of the sectors on the way, apart from its exit gate. How in the hell has he managed to not find the bloody gate he used to enter the bloody sector?
Oh well, the stupid thing will have to make his way back to me while I find somewhere to fit it with explorer software, see if that helps at all. Does turn out however that Omcron Lyrae is bloody miles away, so probably won't actually be heading that way any time soon.
Plodding around hauling e-cells, it seems the slightly glowing cargo bay due to the immense amount of e-cells I've shipped, was noticed. Offered 199k to bring in 4,171 e-cells to the Advanced Satellite Factory in Argon Prime. Got 26 mizura's to do it so sure thing. Just drop some e-cells outside, dock, hand over the e-cells in the cargo bay then head out pick up the e-cells and got fetch the rest of the shipment.
Felling rather smug with myself I follow through with my plan, going well until I realise I can't jump. Turns out I dropped 1 e-cell, not 100. Oh crap.
Comming the station and explaining the situation and my idiocy they inform me The Wall, one sector to the east has SPP's in it. Well that's handy to know. Would have been even handier a while ago but hey.
Anyway finishing up the mission I decide that I should get another ship to help with the trading. After all, two ships should theoretically make twice the profit. Then again the Disco should have theoretically mapped more than the south gate and look where that got us. Anyway, what the hell lets just go for it.
Ordering a Mercury at the local Shipyard I hire a trader looking for a job by the name of Met Hang. Hopefully the instructions I gave him are understandable. Never gave someone orders before so should be interesting. He's complaining a bit about having a single 1MJ shield but I don't care. He wants more protection he needs to make some money. Anyway that emptied a lot of my credits so I'm going to go eat some food then try and build it back up.

Part 4: CLS is a PITA
Right lets see. I've spent all lunch looking at this Commodity Logistics Support (CLS) software brochure and I'm still not sure I understand it. This is a slight issue as its the software that's running Mr Hangs ship. He's also useless and can't figure it out either. I've noticed though that once he's got a bit of experience it can be used to help run a factory so Hang, just go fly around a bit and watch me.
So having decided that getting a station for Hang to run might be a bit more profitable, I decide to go map the Argon core sectors. Takes a long while but it's finally complete. During the time we even managed to get the CLS working so Hang is now hauling e-cells around Power Circle. According to his pilot records he's not actually making much money but hey, at least he's doing something right?
Looking around it seems there's a load of e-cell shipment contracts but I only found the one that I could do in the Mercury that I have, a contract for just under 4k e-cells paying 89,462. With this in mind I've decided that after getting a factory set up I'm going to buy myself a Super Freighter XL TS. They cost a bit of money though so that might take a while.
As for the station I've decided on a Wheat Farm M in Herron's Nebula. Why the farm and why Herron's Nebula. Well it has several stations that need the wheat in sector and none that supply it. There's cheap power to the north in Power Circle and mainly, because the pocket guide to the universe told me too.
If it all goes tits up I can always slap a Rime Factory on it, they seem to be in demand and short supply.
Meanwhile I've ordered the Discoverer back to Argon core space and found out something interesting. If I watching him then he maps the sectors. Bloody cheeky sod only works when I'm keeping an eye on him. Oh well, at least now I know how to make him map stuff. Anyway, he also found a Teladi Military Outpost willing to sell him a Triplex Scanner so I oblique and buy one. Now he can see further which is a bonus for a exploring ship.
I then find Explorer Command Software in the next sector that makes exploring even easier. Telling it to start in the Teladi sector its in, I plan on mapping all the sectors on its return journey. May take ages but hey, at least that'll have revealed a lot more trade lanes.
Anyway I'm tried again now so I'm going to sleep. Hang's says he's getting the hang of things now which is good. Think I'll grab him a jumpdrive in the morning. Then I want to save for this station.

Part 4: Station saving time!
Right lets see. First things first I promised Hang a jumpdrive so lets get him to head to Home Of Light to pick one up. The Discoverer is currently exploring Teladi space still so let's leave him to it. I however need to make some more credits so let's get hauling again.
More e-cells it seems is the order of the day though it does appear that space is finally starting back up again, probably all thanks to me but you know. I'm not that fussed. Power Circle is all stocked up on e-cells anyway. Might have to try a few jumps to Argon Prime, they always need e-cells.
I've also decided that I'm going to let Hang supply and manage the factory, mainly because I've no idea what I'm doing with it and I can't be bothered to learn. Plus I'm the boss so I can delegate. As such I got him to also pick up a Station Running For Dummies book at Terracorp HQ, and am now remotely trading with his ship while he reads it all. Must be a little disconcerting sitting in a ship that goes and does everything by itself but hey, I've looked him in his cabin unbeknown to him anyway.
We're also nearer the required amount of credits now anyway so it's all good. He can come out soon. With this in mind I find a Mammoth TL captain in Argon Prime and hire him to transport the Wheat Farm when I can afford it. He's going to be sat at the Shipyard for a while but shhhhhh because I didn't mention that.
Anyway it's time for some more food, I think. Going to be a long afternoon ahead of me I think.
