I wonder what can we expect in next X:R news...
1) An exact targeted release date
2) Quarter in which they plan to release
3) Release in 2014 or later
Also, I hope that egosoft will explain one day how the game went from 2011 release date to don't know when in 2012, then don't know when in 2013. 2 years is a lot of time ( time enough to develop a game, much less "polish" an almost made one).
This might be a new gen console conspiracy. Xbox 720, PS4 release dates and X:R as one of the first games to come out for the said consoles. (A lot of money there). I'm hoping that some staff member got drunk, destroyed all their work and ES is too embarrassed to admit that rather than console stuff^^.

You think 2 years is enough time to write a free-form sandbox space engine, design the assets, do all the artwork, write the story, put it all together, test it, fix it, balance it, etc. for a small company like Egosoft?

While that's right, it's a bit misleading, since Egosoft clearly haven't been focusing all of their resources onto Rebirth for the entire five years. They've released Terran Conflict and Albion Prelude within that time frame, as well as various patches for both.Nikola515 wrote:I think they are working on game for almost 5 years

I'm saying that 2 years is a lot of time. They didn't start working on the game in 2011 ( but they did planned to publish it then -.- ). Star Citizen, wasteland 2, both have about 2-3 years of dev time, and they are being done by the team roughly the same size, ~20 employes.
ES usually takes 3-4 years to publish a new game. What is their dev process can be discussed in some other thread...
If you take that you have to pay for 20 employes 26k € a year on average( my estimate, college educated indie team, various seniority ) which comes to say 500k € a year ( i'm too optimistic/pessimistic with that number ?, put your own estimate + equipment and software ) . What reason would deep silver have to give them full 2 years of delay ... Usually normal delays are from 1-6 months (DN4ever excluded)
Also, if you save 5 € a week for every week that their forum quest ( which gives 3 copies of a game ), you'll probably have enough money to buy both PS4 and X:R for it.

If you count TC as a "distraction" then they began working on X:R in 2005, after X3:R, and not in 2008 when TC came out which gets you to 5 years...eladan wrote:While that's right, it's a bit misleading, since Egosoft clearly haven't been focusing all of their resources onto Rebirth for the entire five years. How much did Albion Prelude get? A week? It's a smaller game, of course, but it was still far less than you would get for something like a Mass Effect DLC.Toramo wrote:![]()
Are you seriously thinking about a release in 1 month after the marketing announcement ?
I think this take more days... (i mean months in reality ...)
Actually, I expect the game is already done. Before they release, though, the publishers want the developers to play through the whole game themselves, front to back. While most games only get pushed back about a week by this requirement, the "dress rehearsal" will take roughly six months to complete for Rebirth's 900 hours of gameplay.

No, that's all right. I wasn't criticising you, just clarifying for anyone else who read it.Nikola515 wrote:Sorry bad English

:EDIT:
Not sure about Wasteland 2, but certainly Star Citizen is using an engine which has already been developed. Apparently, none of the existing game engines were suitable for what Egosoft had planned, so they had to write their own - not a decision to take lightly, since it probably doubled their development time.Notchi wrote:I'm saying that 2 years is a lot of time. I agree that developing your own engine takes time, but they have projected their release date in q4 2011, and they are pushing it further since then. I'm just trying to figure out the reason for the delay. Do you believe that they have some catastrophic engine problem which they couldn't fix in 2 years? Bern put out some sticky info faq's on 30. Sep 11. Then in March 12 they started SoTW section... which lasted for a few weeks. 2 Months ago we got another FAQ round in the form of a newsletter... and yet... no release date in sight or a gameplay showcase.
I don't know about you, but for me, a minute of a video in which they showcase the new ( and hopefully improved ) UI, interior ( a bit more then the ss version) of the ship and maybe a station or 2, and I can happily lurk around for another year or so.

"Rushing" I think that's the first time in at least the last 6 months that has been used to describe the possible speed of the releasing of X Rebirth lol.

I wan't that game as much as everyone else here but if game is not done it's not done i just wish they tell us something about it and what is going on

Or i might be wrong maybe game is already done and they are waiting for PS4 to come out because PC games are not selling that good

From this post in the long, long ago*:Notchi wrote:I'm just trying to figure out the reason for the delay. Do you believe that they have some catastrophic engine problem which they couldn't fix in 2 years?
* 3 months seems an eternity in this thread.CBJ wrote:As many of you have guessed already, we're not now going to hit our previously-stated target of releasing in 2012. There are various reasons for this, but it's just an accumulation of additional work (something quite common in game development especially when a whole new engine is involved) not some major problem that we've run into.

Nikola515:
As long as it sticks to the latest release.... year I'll be happy otherwise I think it time to call it quits cause by the time they release it i fear it will be the Duke Nukem of space sims lol.
Lol what i'm saying almost everybody wants game outBut do you want game that is buggy and keeps crashing all the time? If game is not ready they should keep working on it as long they need to .... (don't get me wrong im not defending them and i don't agree how they are handling thing but there is nothing we can do right now...)

The delay could be a good thing, like making some core changed to the game as a result of feedback from the fans. They may be mourning the loss of a favorite pizza guy, or the coffee machine broke, bringing productivity to a halt.
There is a reason we do not have a release date now, so I am more intertested in news on where the game is, and why ( within reason ) things 'seem' to be in delay.
My guess; last april, a pizza guy attempted to play an april fools joke on the staff. He delivered the pizza dressed like a Kha'ak. CBJ having had no sleep for months trying to keep up with kitchen spams, freaked out and broke the coffee pot over his head. This resulted in no coffee or pizza. Meanwhile someone decided to make some drastic changes to the game.
Sounds like a very good reason for an unspecified delay in news to me.
