The Famous Valhalla Advice/Loadout

Post by nankura »

hey guys

im looking at getting a valhalla as my flagship. but one thing i dont like which if anyone has read my previous posts will know. i dont like micro management to much

I tend to fly solo and use more "personalised" ships, especially in the M2 and M7 range like the shrike and the titan. and i join in the war's between npc fleets to gain my combat enjoyement, especially when using the IR 2.0 mod

So beyond my long typing obsession, the Valhalla is dubbed i believe the "M2 Carrier" since it has 60 hanger slots and can hold very large ships

But im wondering if the ship, been in the M2 "Destroyer" range can play the role of a destroyer, like a titan and such. with destructive weapons and blowing force, without having to have a fleet or ships in your hanger. and worrying about resupply and all that stuff

Some people like the Valhalla, but I retired mine to sector defense duty because it is just an overweight and oversized target. Personally, I think the Woden is a much better ship in the player's hands.

Size, shields, and number of guns do not tell the full story. The Woden is a much smaller target, and its greater maneuverability allow you to both evade incoming fire and focus more of your own firepower on the target. Armed with the most excellent M/AML's (to balance the energy-hungry monster PSP's), the Woden can hang with the strongest destroyer.

In AP, the Kyoto is unique in its ability to dock M6's. Fill it with Hyperion Vanguards or Springblossoms for a "force multiplier".

If you do not need docking bays, or are playing TC, then the Tyr is also quite awesome.

All are better "destroyers" than a Valhalla(*).

Its to damn big to play an up front role as said before. Its basically a really big Carrier that can take some damage, but if it get swarmed at all its dead.

So I would keep it to the back and mostly equip it with MAM or Starburst for anti fighter and M6. It shouldn't be in a position where more then one M2 or more then 3 M7s are going to get into firing range of it. Also bring a lot of Mosquito missiles, your going to need them... considering its a huge target and even with all its guns it still vulnerable to missiles.

Yeah I love the Woden, I generally only put PSP's on the left side, then have the rest as SSCs, I'm thinking of giving the Woden all my pandora crates in this playthough. It's a great looking model too, good work who ever made that one.

My Valhallas have generally just been trophy pieces, if they had a bit more room they would make a pretty awesome Mobile mining base.

Having just captured a Valhalla myself, I would be remiss if I didn't tell you that it is incapable of using Jumpgates. Not only for the Jumpdrive - it cannot fly through them. This makes it very poor as a personal ship, other than for sitting around looking cool. It also makes it incredibly hard to deploy; short of capturing RRF ships with Jump Beacons, it is impossible to get it to any sectors that do not have Jump Beacons.

...except for one way.

It can dock on the Aran. That's how I moved my Valhalla to my HQ sector east of Legend's Home.
