AP uses its own foldered files, doesn't it? As in, the only thing it borrows from TC are the .cat/.dat pair patch files. So couldn't one merge the XTC .cat/.dat files together and use it from TC's mod folder? Then you'd only need one install of each.

unless you have major issues with HDD space and cant afford to space another 10gb i would always just create a second install for XTC. simply copy every vanilla file in you x3tc folder to a new location, name it XTC for example. then go and get yourself the 2.7 -3.0 patch from egosoft website, run it into the new folder you made , then get 3.0 -3.1.1 and run that the same way and your done, ready to install XTC into this new folder, it takes a few minutes and will save you alot of faffing about and incomplatability issues.

Except that Steam users can only run the version installed in the directory Steam put it in. ;) Even if you manually launch x3tc.exe from another folder, Steam will start up the first one. You end up having to rename the folders back and forth, which can get highly annoying.

Was going to install the Xtended 1.2 but since it appears the developers will be coming out with the new 2.0 version soon, I'll wait. It's nice to know they're working hard to make it problem free. Looking for to playing the mod!

Patch it with one of the DVD patches to replace the EXE - no more fuss. ;)

I've never tried that since we were told not to and I never needed to. Since I enjoy the Steam browser features, I think I'll just stick to packing all of it together in a single .cat/.dat pair. It's not difficult and takes a lot less time than moving the whole game around on standard platter drives.

fair enough but if you ever want a vanilla install and a mod install use the method above :)

I too like the Steam browser feature a lot, but also prefer my DVD install. Adding a non-steam game (shortcut +-sign at bottom left) lets you use the browser feature in it, and almost always works. Didn't know that about DVD patches though, must be the real reason Egosoft always tells us no need for patching our Steam installs! :P

Don't know about the others, but can;t get the vanilla version to play correctly. Every time I restart the game and play half-way thru the first mission, the game always messed up in some way. Last time, for some reason (think because an explorer ship while defending itself fired upon an ATF Terran ship) and although my Race Noriety was high, their warships would fire upon my tankers and explorers. Even after re-setting the rating level to the highest level using Cycrow's cheat, they still fire. Can't remember the other problems which made me re-start, but it's way to troubling.

As a result, I'm going to hold off playing the game until the new Xtended 2.0 patch is completed. Then thankfully, I will be able to play the game without any stupid glitches. No pressure to the developers, just thought I'd pass it along. I have the patience to wait for a good thing! :)

Yes, the Terran campaign. My Notoriety if good, but they keep killing my transports and explorers. I've flown to the different sectors and apologized to the head/leader ships for weapons fire and reset the cheat for race notoriety but it still happens. Funny how they don't fire on me though?!

If you have installed XTC, then you cannot play X3 Terran Conflict Vanilla with that same installation of the game as XTC changes the game files considerably. The only way to go back and play X3TC is to install from scratch or create a Second parallel installation of X3tc so you have 1 = XTC install and 1 = X3tc install, i explained briefly how to do this a few posts ago or alternativly there is a tutorial on the S&M forum some were which i used originally.

Thanks dougeye, I think I stated it was the vanilla game I was playing that was given me these problems! It's been frustrating trying to play the vanilla game with these glitches. That's why I'm waiting for the 2.0 release of the XTC to install and play. Believe in XTC, I will not encounter these problems so I'll wait for the new one once released.

if you are ahving problems with the vanilla X3TC you MUST sort those out first or it could mean that XTC will not work whe you install it!

if your using mods already i would recommend completly uninstalling x3tc, delete the directory folder and reinstall x3tc clean before you install XTC :)

Okay, nice to know. Do you think mods will still be able to be used in the new 2.0 XTC release?

if the mods are adapted by the creator, then yes, because XTC is a total conversion - meaning that almost all important files were altered

Scripts are another topic (scripts=! mods)
