[X3AP] Poison Paranid and Tormented Teladi Rewards
I just finished Poisoned Paranid and am still rolling my Hyperion Vanguard reward to see how high I can get it overtuned.
Please post how fast you got your reward ships overtuned, and how many tries (ballpark if you don't know the number) it took you. Also, does anyone know the max these ships can be overtuned to? Please only post your results from Albion Prelude.
My numbers so far (still rolling the rewards) are...
Tormented Teladi - Enhanced Kea - 182.4 m/s - 90 attempts
Poisoned Paranid - Hyperion Vanguard - 202.9 m/s - 13 attempts
On a side note, I got the Advanced Perseus that you receive with your Hyperion up to 256.5 m/s so far, but it was on a bad speed roll for the Hyperion, so I didn't keep it.

IIRC the max speed is around 220 for the Hyperion, but I just realised something else... Pandora is back. I have found a couple myself and there have been reports on the forums of there being as many as 8 of them in-game. That means a Hyperion could get some pretty crazy speeds. It's been a long time since I last had an overtuned ship, but I think you could possibly even have a Hyperion that's getting close to Springblossom speeds.

1) overtuning is making your ships faster or more agile than you can usually get in the game.Id13 wrote:Could someone explain what overtuning is, what is with the attempts list, and what pandora is.
2) Two of the game starts have have mini-quests that give you overtuned ships as rewards.
How much extra speed they get is random, so people attempt to get the fastest possible ship by reloading their save from just before claiming the reward. Over and over and over again.
3) by, "pandora", he's talking about crates of engine and rudder tunings floating in random locations in space -- if you find them, you can fly into them and get an overtuned ship.

Spent all night rolling both the rewards for theses starts (yes I am that OCD), and the game took pity on me.
Tormented Teladi - Enhanced Kea - 192 m/s - 152 attempts (stubborn ftw!)
Poisoned Paranid - Hyperion Vanguard - 230 m/s - 33 attempts (luck!)
Now I guess I actually have to go back to playing the game.
Feel free to post your attempts, results, and questions on the subject of these rewards in Albion Prelude here.
@Id13 - 'overtune' refers to a ship being able to go faster than usual. In Terran Conflict, you can board Hyperion M6's in Paranid space, but cannot buy them. In Albion Prelude I have seen no Hyperions at all, besides the one I was given for finishing the Poisoned Paranid start. Both the Advanced Kea and Hyperion you are gifted for finishing these two starts have a top speed that is random. If you save before turning in the money to receive your end reward, you can keep loading the game, and keep randomly rolling the top speed on your ship rewards.
@Xander Cade - I started the X series on X3:TC. Is Pandora from an earlier game? Do you mean overtune crates? I have found one so far (won't post location in this thread but will share that info if anyone interested sends me a pm), and have not picked it up yet. I will let everyone know in this thread if it further overtunes the Advanced Kea or Hyperion Vanguard.

Pandora dates back to Reunion (at least, I never got far in X2 and I've never played the original games and expansions). I believe they were added in the 2.0 patch and placed in fixed locations in the universe, but my memory is a little fuzzy.
Admitting you have a problem is the first step in figuring out how to make it worse.

According to my files, the En. Kea will always have exactly 18 tunings, the Hyperion 12, and the Adv. Perseus 8, on top of the "default" loadout.
After some scripting, I created 40 Hyperions and added default to them, and then checked their engine tunings. The largest value was 10, which with the 12 from the plot would lead to a top speed of 216m/s.
A Hyperion Vanguard at 230.0m/s has 24 engine tunings, thus suggesting that 12 from defualt is possible. You should therefore be able to get your En. Kea to 206.4m/s if you try hard enough!
Also of note is that the Pandora tunings appear to be in 5s IIRC. A Q, for example, with 5 engine tuning plus another 15 from 3 crates (of which there is a possible of about 8, once again IIRC), would go at 243.7m/s. Faster ships get less of a benefit as the speed gained per tuning is significantly smaller. A Boreas with 15 overtunes can travel 2x its max speed.

Just follow the mission guidance and do all the quests set there.Sawk75 wrote:how do you manage to "finish" a start? and claim rewards? what to do in game for this?
Once you have done all that is required at each reward stage, you will be sent a message to that effect, telling you where to dock to claim your reward.
Note that some have time limits.
For "start" quest rewards,it is similar, but ends when you have been given the reward.
Then it's time to get on with the rest of the game.

I've only ever found one Pandora crate in any X game and that was in Reunion, which i put in a Titan.
I think ANY speed increases i'd find i'd put in M2's.
I've a regular Titan in TC, it goes 49M/S!! - painfully slow!
.
When i'm in big battles i fly an M7 and use the Titan as heavy support, drawing anything too big for me towards it.
While i bought the Turbo Boost, for my Titan, in Reunion i didn't get round to buying it in TC or AP yet.
But unless it's changed it only lasted about 30 seconds to a minute, then shut off, good for getting out of a stick situation, but a bit of a 20 million extravagance for your M2 (which already cost you up to 150 million, buying and equipping it).
Actually, i did most of Final Fury, in a Cerberus, dropping 10 - 12 lasertowers, and MK2 fighter drones 20 at a time. - highly effective.
I only really used the M2 for the last two missions (about when i had it outfitted, actually).
I found out quickly that while in Reunion you could take on a Xenon or Kha'ak sector just in the M7 or a Titan (harder in a Kh'aak sector obviously, but still doable), doing the same in TC got you quickly swamped my enemies, but giving them ANYTHING else to shoot at, even just about 6 standard drones took a lot of the enemies focus off you and made fighting a lot easier.
The lasertower can kill a Kh'aak destroyer surprisingly easily.
(I had a mission with 2 destroyers, a carrier and their assorted hangers on, just me in a Cerberus the MK2 drones and Lasertowers, a healthy supply of missiles and only lost one or two lasertowers and whatever amount of drones.)
I haven't tried the LTs against a Xenon M2, yet, but they've handled Q's also easily.

I dont see any need to put pandoras in M2's or M1's they because I almost never personally pilot them I dont like piloting anything above M7 and even then spend most of the game in either Hyperion or Springblossom, I even finished OFF in a Springy. Ofcourse some times it is fun getting into a Tyr and broadsiding stuff but generally it only makes sense to put pandoras into stuff you use the most
