*sigh* We get this every time. Retailers put up specific dates and everyone jumps up and down complaining that they are the last to know. They are guessing, as is anyone stating a specific release date or indeed anything more precise than the expected quarter given in the announcement.amtct wrote:http://www.zavvi.com/games/platforms/pc ... 48547.htmlkarlwatson wrote:Zavvi.com have a release date of October 7th

CBJ is 100% right Here is proof of how reliable Play.com are
As has been discussed on the Frontier Forum, until they actually take your money, they are doing nothing wrong.amtct wrote:Well ,you know what you have to do .Tell the boss to sue them for false release date

Elite 4? now that would be just as exciting as X RebirthAlien ND wrote:CBJ is 100% right Here is proof of how reliable Play.com are

Far as I'm concerned the whole X series has been Elite 4. Braben can keep dawdling on his supposed project 'The Outsider' for eternity for all I care... now that I've discovered this series. Egosoft has done Elite better than he (and Bell) ever did.Skyman wrote:Elite 4? now that would be just as exciting as X RebirthAlien ND wrote:CBJ is 100% right Here is proof of how reliable Play.com are

I'm sure they'll have taken these things into account - although I am concerned about how the AI fighters will handle it. It'll have to be a big improvement over TC and its spherical collision avoidance thing.PTR wrote:He says something like 'bring more of the game to the surface of the space stations'. I like that: in smaller ships I like to dogfight around space stations, so you can hide behind them for cover etc... I hate it in bigger ships, the turrets cause a lot of rep-loss....
Thanks for the vid!
It's a very nice idea though - it was a lot more tense fighting in a dense asteroid field in Freelancer than in open space. You had to be on your toes to worm around the asteroids.
I need to stop comparing space sims to Freelancer though, in case I accidentally create a variation of Godwin's Law.

I don't know about that. I have been a fan of the X series since XBTF, but despite the original claim that XBTF is an Elite followup game, IMHO, it is not. Don't get me wrong, but besides the trading aspect, I found no similarity between the 2 games, even though I am a fan of both games.builder680 wrote:Far as I'm concerned the whole X series has been Elite 4. After almost 20 years, I am still looking for a game that has the flight model that FE has, i.e. Planet landing, quasi Newtonian physics and real/lookalike solar systems that you can navigate in (and not just a graphic thing in X). I understand the limitation (computing power etc...), but I find it hard to believe what Braben can do with code sizse that fit in a 1.44MB floppy disk and a 640K RAM cannot be done in nowsaday CPU.
My apologies for the OT rant.

Well, as you could tell from my post, I'm not around the forum much and have just joined the X-universe since X3:R, while Garrett played the Operations Ensign on ST:VOY, which series I happened to watch several times.amtct wrote:Soo you know about Garrett Wang and you don't know about BerndSeaBee-T wrote:Looks like Garrett Wang, can't tell who the other guy with the microphone is though...GeminiFire wrote:ps. Compared to frontiers X Universe's space is too cartoonish and it doesn't look like it is going to change much in X3:Rb. X series wins where economy or dogfight counts, but it is an entirely different game. I would very much like to explore an infinite programmatically generated space. Looking at the gates on all the screens we are still going to get the same concept in X3:Rb.as far as I'm concerned the whole X series has been Elite 4.
Elite 4 would definitely suck thought without some sort of economy and fleets. I only wish somebody marries these two concepts some time.

I meant more in spirit than a direct successor. Obviously we don't have newtonian physics (which the first Elite didn't have either, iirc from being 8ish years old), and planet landings... etc... But we do have quite a heck of a lot. That's the sense I mean when I call X the spiritual successor. Not a replica or a sequel, just the bearer of the torch, so to speak.
