I think there's a strong consensus (70%, give or take) that an X-MMO is not wanted.

Ok so we're finally getting a peak at the game, how about a heads up on the expected (machine) specs needed to get best out of the thing?

Got a feeling that I'm going to be saving for a while just to get close, so a shopping list might make the thing a bit easier.

Well, Massively Multiplayer Online, probably. But I think a Multiplayer Online (1-8 players) would be great.

I found this the other day while trying to figure out how to create a link. (If it's old news, then just ignore the rest of my post.) The part I found most interesting (disturbing?) was the specialization experience on PS3 / Xbox360 part. I just hope that if they've ported TNBT to a console that they started with a PC game and ported it to a console game.

Meh, once again I feel the need to predict* at least some of TNBT so I don't say it after we know and look like I'm lying.

IMO:

Races are ok.
Universe is ok.
Back story is ok.
It's a SciFi game.
Therefore creating a new game which is just X but... not, would be silly and random.
As all the individual factors are good, it's most likely it'll use them.
So chances are it'll be part of 'X'.
The story was expanded in the ency. unnecessarily, unless they need the story to expand.
Stick it all together and...
Therefore it'll be a continuation of the X story, though possibly a few hundred years in the future.
Unless it's going to be radically different, in which case a new universe and such might be acceptable.
In which case, radically different would probably a MP to get more people in on it.
But they know they've got a good fanbase.

Final conclusion:
It'll be 'X4'. Set int he X Universe, or at least part, maybe far in the future, continuing the story partly. Or it'll be a brand new Multiplayer game, making some people very happy, and others very angry. I'm voting on the former.

*Correct EJ prediction 0.0001% chance. But I'll round that to 3D.P. for ease. So that's 0.00%.

EDIT: Hey, even if it is MP I correctly predicted it's existance.

X4 but the ancient long forgotten race that built the jumpgates unviel themselves? they are mentioned throughout the series, in BBS and small backlogs.

If they came and took away the precious gate systems they set up, well. the game would be completely different, wouldnt it?

The Terran have demonstrated at the end of TC that they can not only build the trans orbit accelarators, but also gates, so perhaps they could use a combination of the two to try and reconnect the universe (if they would be so kind

) but it would still look completely different.

As for mmo's, i support the idea. which is why, when i have the money and time i'll get a copy of EVE online. a multiplayer game in the style of the X series already exists (kind of) so if the X series devs tried to expand into that, they will just meet alot of competition, i assume...

I don't really support the idea. For several reasons.

1. It'll be subscription. I just don't like that.
2. X wouldn't work. SETA and all, you know?
3. The game would be even slower.

Which is why i said i dont think it would be a good idea, and that i'll get EVE someday :/

As for the Terran, well what more is there to say. Maybe in return for galactic domination...

Oh, now that is a little over the top, don't you think? unless the person is actually addicted, like some people are to facebook, then if it really feels more like work than fun, well then they can always freeze the account. if they are actually addicted, better to have them playing an MMO than going on online casinos at least

At this point i am no longer replying to anything because i can see this thread evolving into something... deadly, very fast.

A killer for me too. I hate the idea you pay for game play time even although your not using it.
