The final paragraph of the announcement mentions a competition we will hold, the prizes of which are now two entry passes to the weekend days of FedCon XX. We will announce the nature of that competition shortly.

Actually, they've never, ever said that. What they've said is that X3TC ends the storyline begun in X-BTF--that does not preclude TNBT being an X game, and it doesn't preclude it being set in the X universe.

My guess is they will leverage as much as possible from existing lore for TNBT. There's nothing wrong with the X-races, so no reason to change that. If we go on basis of jumpgates doen't work any more, then perhaps much of TNBT will take place in single solar system within x-universe. Possibly warp-drive will be used as gate replacement for long-distance travel.

This is like slow torture! Is there a good reason why Egosoft won't tell us now? Building the suspense won't increase sales I think. Anyone who has played in the x universe are prob a dead cert for buying the new game.

Yes, it's called marketing strategy, and involves all manner of interests including publisher. No doubt there are lawyers involved (aren't there always).

X when it was out was touted as the follow up of Elite. I was a little bit disappointed when XBTF used a system of gates instead of the Hyperdrive and the Hyper Cloud in Frontier Elite. Here, secretly wishing that the FTL drive would return!!!!
