X3: Terran Conflict Update 2.6 - Coming Soon!
We'd like to let all X-Fans know that Update 2.6 is coming very soon. An important part of that Update is the introduction of STEAM achievements for X3: Terran Conflict. In order to ensure their smooth introduction, the achievements may become visible in Steam prior to the release of the Update in order to facilitate final testing of the achievement system.
It is important to note that the achievements are not unlockable with the current version of the game.
Also we'd like to inform owners of the DVD version of X3: Terran Conflict that they will soon be able to register their existing key with STEAM to be able to download X3: Terran Conflict and start enjoying STEAM achievements once 2.6 is released.
We hope you enjoy Update 2.6 when it arrives!
[Edit: There is a separate 2.6 Update for non-Steam users as usual. The installation of Steam is not a requirement, merely an option to access Achievements. This is not a Steam-bashing thread.] 23-Apr

Fantastic news - especially about the DVD players being able to unlock the achievements thru steam, as well!
As always - thanks Ego and anyone who helped in the dev & testing of this

Normally steams games has achievements, like xbox 360 games does.Alien ND wrote:Forgive my ignorance -
Achievements through STEAM ???
What's that all about ? Could someone please explain.
If I've been missing something, then all you STEAM customers have been keep very quiet on it.
Alien
Achievements are something like:
-Kill 1000 Xenon with your space suit repair gun.
That such of things, if you do, you get like a medal, and show it to your friends.
I have to say I like it in the way it add some more small little "quest" and If the achievements are nice and well balanced, the game get some extra.
On the other hand you have achievements like:-Press start butom
which are really senseless...

You haven't been missing anything - this is a new feature, which has not yet been implemented in the game. The new release implements Achievements for Steam users, and the rest of us will have the chance to become Steam users in order that we can make use of Achievements.Alien ND wrote:If I've been missing something, then all you STEAM customers have been keep very quiet on it.

OH right, OK, I understand know (I think).
As I own the DVD, can re-install anytime I like, and don't need an internet connection
(5GB download would cost me about £30 as I'm on PAYG)
I see no need to register with STEAM. But that's my opinion on my situation, it may be different for you.
And yes, a HUGE pat on the back to the devs.

If you know someone else who has Steam on a fast link you could log into steam on their machine (using your account!), register your game, download it, then make a Steam backup. That can then be transfered to your machine on dvd.Alien ND wrote:OH right, OK, I understand know (I think).

Wait a minute, did you just say DVD owners will get a Steam download key?Toastie wrote:Also we'd like to inform owners of the DVD version of X3: Terran Conflict that they will soon be able to register their existing key with STEAM to be able to download X3: Terran Conflict and start enjoying STEAM achievements once 2.6 is released.
Awesome

Sounds like a pretty expensive business deal for Egosoft. Though I don't really know much about Steam's inner workings.
However, will I be able to keep my current install and link that one to Steam to acquire achievements, instead of downloading everything first?

This is not intended to sound rude or be offending in any way, BUT are you ADMINS/MODERATORS are not included in about getting briefed about these things (L3 access)? It is more than a surprise that you people are *big-sorry!* "clueless"...X-Warrior B AS wrote:Wait a minute, did you just say DVD owners will get a Steam download key?Toastie wrote:Also we'd like to inform owners of the DVD version of X3: Terran Conflict that they will soon be able to register their existing key with STEAM to be able to download X3: Terran Conflict and start enjoying STEAM achievements once 2.6 is released.

Most mods/admins on this site are volunteer gamers, not Egosoft employees. Some may have L3 access, others not. And some stuff is above L3 access, such as, most likely, the Steam info. It's best not to make unwarranted assumptions regarding what we do or do not have knowledge of.Eisenkalle wrote:This is not intended to sound rude or be offending in any way, BUT are you ADMINS/MODERATORS are not included in about getting briefed about these things (L3 access)? Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.
