Bug in Aldrin Missons

Post by Bishop149 »

Found this thread:

http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=241371

I'm having the same problem. The fix found in the thread didn't work. . . . I hadn't explored Aldrin 2 before the mission anyway.

The only scripts I'm running are CAG and CLS.

Edit: I've done a search I can't find either the "Types" folder or the TSpecial.xml file

Anybody? I suspect I am jsut missing the file needed for the mission, a simple copy would probably fix it.

Mods: I don't quite understand the move. . . . . to tech support maybe but in what way is this s spoiler?!

Well seeing as it doesn't look like I'm going to get a reply to this (rare for these forums, very dissappointed) can someone at least let me know how I might persue this through more official channels?

Would the L3+ board be a good idea, can I PM someone etc?

The problem in the original thread may have been mod-related. Are you running vanilla TC?

And moved to tech support.

Nope, only scripts are CLS and CAG.

Pretty widely used ones, I'd have thought this issue would be common if it was something to do with them. I think I am just missing the files required for some reason, a simple copy would probably fix it no?

I wouldn't think so.

You won't find a TSpecial.xml unless you've unpacked the cat files - so it should be using the proper one.

Hmmm any ideas how I might fix this?

Anyway to check I have the right CAT file?
Reinstall perhaps?

As long as I copy my save games I shouldn't loose anything right?

Seriously ANY potential solution would be nice. I'll send you a relavent save game if it will help diagnosis?

The cat file is the 07.cat. If the missions are running, then you must have it. I hope you have a save before this bug occurred. If you do a full reinstall, load that save, then continue, I expect it will fix the problem.

Make sure that you don't have a 'false patch mod' such as 08.cat as that could overwrite the real patch cat. You say you've searched for /types/special.pck to no success, so that shouldn't be the problem.

Unfortunatly, providing a savegame will not help in this case as the issue is with your install somewhere.

I guess a full reinstall might be the only way forward then. . . . I really hope I don't loose all my progress!!

Only just finished the crystal bit of the Hub!

Oh FFS!!!

A full reinstall has not solved the problem!!! Thats bloody rediculous!

My save is before the point where the error should be generated! Pretty sure I don't have an earlier one.

My saves are just before I have to talk to a chap and give him a data recording device. I dock with the station and am told to fly to Aldrin 2.
At this point I have never been to Aldrin 2 before.

When I do and I dock there is no gate visable and I get told to fly to "object.name@L2M011.Aldrin 2 Gate"

Something is VERY VERY broken. This is evenidently a reather large problem, any chance it might be fixed by a patch? Might a sve game be informative now? Its obviously nothing to do with my install.

I might try ONCE more without installing the CAG and CLS.

Well, that isn't the case as many people have proceeded past this mission without any problems. The 'other' instance of this situation you linked to was caused by a mod, and was fixed by the user.

While I can't look at your install directly, I can only guess at what the problem could be. I can offer some extra info about the mission though. The gate object was created when you enter the Aldrin sector, to deliver the logbook to the station. Only saves before this point, i.e back in the Earth sector, could still be fixable.

I think there may be a work around but you'll have to try yourself. Try flying within 10km of the centre of any sector. The position check may default to 0, 0, 0 in this case. Although, I fear there may be a crash after that point due to the missing gate being referenced in a cutscene. As I said, you will have to give it a go.

As for the next patch; as I said, there is nothing to fix this end. As you already have unsigned script, I expect a modified mission file will not bother you. If you want, I can put one together to progress you on. I can't put it in an official patch for everyone as it is an unnecessary risk. Just let me know if you want me to do that.

Ketraar made a plot reset script (see the Scripts forum), but I don't know if he's updated it to include TREC yet.

EDIT: here.

Ok, that makes some sense, would explain why the reinstall didn't work, I don't have any saves pre that point. From reading the other thread I thought that it was spawned when I entered Aldrin 2, thus I keeped the save before that point

I may as well give it a go!!

So once a save game has encountered a bug thats it. . . no fixing it, even with a proper patch?

Wow that would be fantastic! If you could have a crack I would be most grateful. . . .

If the bug is with the game itself, then of course we will try and fix it for everyone affected. If the bug is caused by a strange install problem, then we can't always include a fix in the patch, as it may adversely affect some other peoples games. Of course, that is what testing is for, but we can't add a workaround for every problem caused by mods and such. In fact, the only time I remember we fixed something for mods was stopping the CTD with cockpit mods in 2.0. Still, that was a bug on our end ;)

Recieved!

Many Thanks, I'll try both solutions, the one flying to 0,0,0 and your mini patch tonight in that order.

If it works I'll be officially impressed with the support here and you'll be my personal hero!

Update:

It seems that the first fix of simply flying to 0,0,0 worked!

The cut scene that you feared might cause a crash actually seems to be what fixed it . . . once the scene was over the gate appeared.

Many many thanks for the little patch anyway, even if it wasn't required in the end, really appreciate the help, lets hope its smooth sailing from here on in.
