I will try to ask this again since the mods think its ok to merge questions of the patch to this one thread that gets lost in about 1 min.
HOW is the OSS combat now? With the M2 and the laser towers?
Sometimes you guys have to let specific questions get asked, instead of merging every single one into this thread to get lost and never answered.

It's a good thing we have the internet, otherwise all these people wouldn't have a chance to get on their high horse.
Look, the vast majority of people irritated at Steam are just that. Irritated. They aren't posting 2 page rants, they are saying "hey this sucks, wish it wasn't so", so the adorable chorus of "OMG EGO WORKED SO HARD YOU DON"T UNDERSTAND STEAM!" is entirely unnecessary.
Lets be clear: Ego made an awesome game. That game was buggy. So kudos for the awesome game. Also kudos for continuing to support it instead of washing your hands of it. That is to be lauded.
To the fanbois: It is entirely reasonable and acceptable to be aggravated that a product you spent money on is having issues, so silly posts about "people are never happy" don't really make sense.
Not to mention lets keep in mind here that the people who are grousing about 1.3 and Steam? They aren't doing it because they like whining, they are doing it because they are eager to enjoy the same game you are enjoying. We are all going on the same vacation here, it's just that us Steam users are still sitting at the dock waiting for our boat, while we watch you guys party it up without us
It's also worth noting in Valve's defense that L4D received a patch yesterday as well, and I think we can agree that patching their own games up is probably a higher priority for them.

Leads to the German forum instead of the English one.

Re: For the unwashed masses
Actually, that's not true, although it's a common misconception. I have yet to see a third-party Steam game that used a different file structure than the non-Steam version. It may be true for some games (although I doubt it due to my experiences), but it's certainly not true of X3:TC. The only thing that's different is the executable file.B_O_L_T wrote: As an aside, I personally avoid steam versions of any software; because many files are decompressed on the fly as needed, it can cause many games to run slower than their DVD counterparts.
I have purchased quite a few games on Steam (both Valve and third-party ones), and the only ones that use archives are games that use archives in the retail version (such as Quake3 engine games with their pk3 files) or Valve games (which use GCF files). The thing is, those games were designed to use compressed archives in the first place; it wasn't something tacked on for the Steam version. In the case of X3:TC, the Steam version does not use Steam-only compressed archives. I preordered and preloaded X3:TC on Steam, and watched as it downloaded. Steam didn't even use compressed archives to download the game... each file downloaded directly to the X3:TC folder.
Your point about the Steam service overhead is valid, although it's really not an issue on modern systems. If your game is running slowly only because of Steam running in the background, something is very wrong.
As far as the patch goes, yes, it's frustrating for us Steam users to have to wait. But there are much bigger, more important things to be mad about. Waiting a few days, or even a week or more, won't kill anyone. It would be nice for the Steam patch to be only a day or two behind though.

Sitting outside the gate in a station defense mission.
Nova flies through, liquefied by my PSGs.
Centaur flies through, also killed quickly.
...
long pause
...
AKUMA M2 flies through!!
I kill it, 8000,000 credits after a long hard fight.
Then a Yaki M1 Hoshi flies through.
I exit my ship and give it orders to kill.
It flies to and destroys the enemy M1.
Looks like I now get reward for my ships kills in these missions. (6M for the M1)
Hooray!
This is better than the stupid spamming of Centaurs and Ospreys by far!
Great job, EGOSOFT!

This signature is here because it makes my posts look longer and therefore makes me seem like I know what I am talking about - which I do, honest!
For example, the Ray is the best M2 and a Falcon always beats the other M3s, see!
Hey, now that TC is out the Ray does seem to be one of the best M2's. Maybe I had better change my sig...

That's the Hoshi, the Yaki carrier. It's faster than any other carrier, and holds 40 fighters.Boghedian wrote:What's the name of the new ship? I have gone through TShips.pck in both old 03.cat and new 05.cat and both have 369 objects. I just can't find the new ship entry and it's driving me bonkers
