Sometimes a Virus checker will throw up a false positive when you are downloading a 7Zip executable. As long as you got the file from the main XTM forum over on The X-Universe you have nothing to worry about.KoshZdryh wrote:I started downloading XTM with flashget and at some point a VIRUS warning came : found virus DOWNLOADER.ZLOB in system volume information from my AVG8free (yeah cheap me).
The questions are:
1)why can't I now acces system volume information (a link would be very useful)?
2)is it safe to continue the download ?
Sorry, big brother,I guess I was a little over the line here...
We obviously can't vouch for any other source apart from the ES servers, but the ES Server version is currently an older install version.

I fixed the problem with my computer and now I will resume the download.
Thank you very much.

There was probably something I had installed earlier that denied my access to the system volume and maybe that was what my AV discovered...Aragon Speed wrote:No idea on the system volume info though, XTM just uses a straight forward 7zip installer, nothing fancy that would even touch that. Although fixing a virus that doesn't exist may cause a problem.

I'm thinking of installing this mod, but I have a couple questions that I'm hoping someone could help me out with.
1. I'm hoping that running this along with the Combat Mod II will help to significantly improve performance during large fleet battles (as well as causing the battles to last longer and feel epic). Do these mods finally make large battles playable in sector. As reference I'm running an Intel E6750 @ 2.65 GHz, with an 8800GT and fps drops to single digits in very large battles.
2. I understand that I need to start a new game, but is there any way to export a save from Vanilla X3 or do I need to cheat myself back all my belongings?
3. I'm running the minimal hud mod (which I love as it gets rid of all the boxes around objects), but as far is I can tell only one mod can be selected to run at a time. Is there any way around this?
4. Since this mod doubles the size of the universe and adds so many scripts I'm concerned about the performance hit while just flying around. Is there a noticeable hit to performance or is it not a big deal (in a "average" sector I currently get around 80-90 fps).
Thanks for any help, it's much appreciated.

tmbroe01,
The final answers can only be found by trying it out. BEFORE you do anything else, make a copy of your entire X3 install folder and your save games and save it all somewhere. If anything doesn't work, just paste it all back and you have lost nothing.
1) CMOD2 is listed as compatible here but not combined with GUI effects:
http://www.thexuniverse.com/forum/showt ... hp?t=11900
I can't tell you what it will do with XTM added. XTM all by itself, WILL put more strain on any system.
2) You can import a Vanilla or an XTM save using the X3-X3Converter, but I don't know if it will have any problems with CMOD2.
http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=172536
3) I'm using minimal HUD myself but as a FALSE PATCH only. You may have to back it out first. XTM is NOT selected when X3 starts so that is not the issue. Check that 1st link to make sure you have the compatible version of Min HUD.
4) There is a definite Perf hit but it can be minimized with various other scripts/settings. You have a better processor than me and the same GFX card and I haven't had any problems (unplayable).
5) Once you start, follow all the instructions for installing XTM EXACTLY to avoid major hassles.

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.
I've gotten XTM up and everything's running well. I'm especially pleased with the improved performance I get during large battles (I'm running CMOD II as well). The worst I've seen so far is 18 fps in a rather large furball (at least 8 capitals).
One thing I've noticed so far is a distinct lack of TL's in core sectors with shipyards. In Vanilla X3, every sector with a shipyard had a TL wandering around, but so far in my new XTM game I rarely can find a TL in these or neighboring sectors. Do they tend to move around a lot in XTM and is this normal or does this sound like a problem. Maybe their creation is completely random and I'm just unlucky?

There's a couple refs to this over on TXU forums.
Some say there is sometimes a block of some type in one of the sectors: Pirates not departing a station or something blocking a gate. You might take a look around and see. Once you find a gaggle, check there running commands and see what they are waiting to do.
If it is a very new start, it does take a bit for all the scripts to "populate" the XTM universe so I don't know if waiting a bit will help.
If you find any other major burps like readtext or missing ship parts or dead sectors or missing XTM sectors then its likely a bad install unfortunately.
EDIT: Also a ref to hardcode X3 vanilla and GOD simply has them all tasked. You can check that if you find one and wait for it to finish.

While testing 0.7.4 we looked into the fact that in 7.3 a few people had reported problems with the job's files not always initialising correctly at the start of a new game. They also reported that if you just start another new game it seems to work OK.tmbroe01 wrote:One thing I've noticed so far is a distinct lack of TL's in core sectors with shipyards. We couldn't reproduce this in testing, but just to make sure players didn't get days into a game before finding out, we added a check in 7.4 that waits until you are five minutes into the game and then tests the universe to see if the jobs files have started up OK, and if they haven't then it sends the player a warning so they can start another game without losing to much.
If you started a new 7.3 game you may have run into this elusive bug.

Well, I am using 0.7.4 and I didn't get any message so I assume I'm okay. Everything seems to be fine other than the TL's; and I've managed to find a couple of the missing ones (for example I found the Mammoth from argon prime wandering around in the Ore Belt doing nothing). Even if some TL's are missing, once I buy my own it won't be a problem.
I did read a thread about the jobs file not initializing properly and someone said you could check the Xenon sectors in the NE corner of the map with the Reveal all cheat and make sure they're full of Xenon ships. I tried it and I saw plenty of them.
So, I think I'm okay since everything else seems normal, though if things start acting up you can be sure I'll be looking for help again. Thanks!

leebee,
There were a few posts on this a month or so ago. Prob take a while to find them.
Until then, try this:
You don't have to follow the flight at all. Let them go ahead of you during all fights and see if it still crashes when you hang back.
Even when it goes to movie, when it ends you should still not be directly on top of them when the new enemies spawn.

Hi all...
I have just downloaded XTM V. 0.75.
Now I have the exe but what's supposed to me to do to install?
I have check the discussion about installing it but it seems to me that they are out of date since they are talking about xtm v. 7.1 + xtm script (to be installed by cicrow installer).
Someone could help me?
Thanks in advance

The install instructions were on the page you downloaded it from. They are different depending on whether you have the patch or the full version.
