theres a difference between going gold, and when you buy a "gold" version of the game, like X-Gold, which as Dragoongfa said, is the game with an expansion pack, in this case, XBFT and X-Tension together.

going gold is part of the development process, and basically means when the game is finished and ready for production. The gold disc is the one thats basically used to create all the retail versions. so what ever is on the gold master is what you will get when you by the retail version.

OK, guys, let's keep it on topic. This thread is, after all, about X3:TC going gold, not about the history of the term. I think we all now know all we need to know about that. :P
Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

X4 is a journey, not a destination. Have fun on your travels.

Now that the game has gone GOLD. :D

Does anyone know if it will be eventually availible at U.S. retail stores like Gamestop/Bestbuy and if so how long after initial release?

Thanks!

If it can't, RAM is pretty cheap these days, and 2gb will improve your performance at everything. 8)

Great! I can't wait to check it out! I have the feeling that this is going to be the best X game ever.

And now for a serious question: What copy protection has the publisher decided to go with, if any?

I was just about to ask this myself. If they use Starforce again I'll buy it off steam as that bugger caused me some problems on my previous system.

Clearly you missed the bit where discussion of copy protection was split out of this thread and locked. This isn't all that surprising since it's now in another thread, so no warning and I'll simply remind people: no discussion of DRM and copy protection please, because people seem to be incapable of discussing it without straying outside the bounds of the law and therefore the forum rules.

I'm just going to assume that's the requirement when running Vista. Since I'm still on XP (with a minimal amount of software cluttering my desktop), my 2 GB will probably do the job just fine.

I think the processors are called XP2000+ and upwards.

Thanks to everyone involved

My PC can't handle this game I fear. But my laptop should, just about. After some deliberation I've submitted my pre-order.

A new PC is not that far off... :)

X³: Terran Conflict will also be available for pre-load from Steam starting on September 25th.
I'm buying a hard copy so this doesn't really affect me but I'm curious, I know that shops need a set release date so they can all start selling the game on the same day and no-one gets an advantage but If the game is finalised and steam users are allowed to start downloading the game from September 25th why aren't they allowed to start playing the game from September 25th?

The only thing I can think of is that Egosoft are working on a patch which won't be ready for Steam users to download until October 3rd is that why :?
My (new) PC:-

Intel® Core™ i7-4770 processor (3.4 GHz, 8 MB cache)
Microsoft Windows 10
16 GB DDR3 Ram
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB GDDR5

No it because of competition, the publisher gets less money from a steam download compared to a hard copy sale.

Count in the various interests of the parties involved and you will get the picture.

Not a fan of Steam, though I used it once when I first bought X2 and X3 as a bundle offer. But patches were delayed so I also bought an X3 disk and prefer to be able to patch things myself as soon as egosoft releases a patch, update or script bonus pack.

This is why I must ask for X3:TC - it's been asked a couple of times in the thread but with no response I found... which retailers in the US are carrying it? I can't afford anymore the US$56 after conversion rate to buy direct from Egosoft, so I am hoping that a local retailer or national mail-order chain here in the US will carry this game.
