Hi Cycrow,

I'm having a similar problem to this here:
Computertech wrote:I'm getting the same result as MANY others. Empty (no description) items for 5192 credits. All seem to be like 1mj, rest of the settings on the items are usually zero. Edited the cat file the ship creator makes, well over 20+ entries in the front of the file, all null types with 1mj shields, and zero on the rest of the settings.

What is making the ship creator screw up?
I've been going through the forums over and over trying to find what fixed it, as this was back in 2004... :headbang:
here is the link the where I found this:
http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php? ... &start=630

I'm having no problems with any of the wares or other mods, just with ship files.
These are the things I've tried so far:
  • 1) I've tried dissabling all the ships, starting X3. Everything works great, no empty ship listings. Re-enabled the ships, started X3, empty ships are back.
    2) I've tried uninstalling all ships. Started X3. All stations seem fine, no empty ships. SAVED. Re-installed the ships (only a few by Kris and MM this time) and the empty ships are back.
    3) I've tried erasing X3, re-installing the whole game, re-installing the mod files, game runs great. Save, re-installed random ships, empty ships are back...
Have I missed something here? :?

I have the latest X3 updates 2.5 and the latest version of Xtended. I have your last release version of plugin manager 2.12. Running on Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 x32bit. (granted I have to run EVERYTHING for this in Admin mode by default or it simply won't run period)

I've gone as far as re-downloading the ships even... no dice.

Grey

UPDATE

Going ship by ship, removing each ship found when I finally removed this ship: (AdmiralDominik_Queball)(M2)Premonition.xsp, all the other ships suddenly were back in the game. :o

So, with that ship removed, I no longer have 'ghost' ships in the space docks.

the problem your experiencing is that one of the ships has a malformed TShips line, usually caused when it has an invalid number of arguments.

the way the game works, is each ship has a line of settings, each seperated by a :

however, each line has to have a specific number of these to work. If its got more or less than it should, then all the arguments are shifted.

ie, if its missing one, then the game reads the first one of the next line as the last argument for the previous ship. so then the all the following ships arguments are 1 place out, because of this, the game has trouble understanding the ship and you end up with weird results.

im gonna look into solving this in the next version by counting the number of arguments and preventing the ship from being installed if its invalid

Cool info to know! I'll see if I can locate that in the ship and repair it. At the least, everything works good now! :P

This is a general problem for the ship mentioned by you. When have you downloaded the ship?
The cockpit entries are faultily at the old version.
Actually the problem should not appear at the current download any more.

Running Vista x64, the plugin manager crashes when I try to add scripts from Cycrow's packs (guilds and others). EXP and another single script (GMUS) I've tried works. The crash happens after pressing "Install". It seems at least parts of the packs end up (somewhat?) installed, since some of it shows up in-game in the form of menus etc.

I think not but .... I updated the Premonition again and now they have standard cockpits, I think this should help and the Premonition will work now. Can you report to me if not?

Misssing saves - please advise

Post by lloydy1988 »

This is my first post after only 8 days in game so please bear with the Noob.

I recently installed Cycrows 'reasorce free factories' scrip and the 'extra BBS' script too with his script installer. however they worked ok for a time and after my game refused to load after flying through a gate near 18billion. i had to restart my PC as i could not even get the desktop up!!

Now when i go to reload my game there are no saves there at all!! not even the autosaves, the only thing i can think it may be is ther fact that i had created a new profile in cycrows script installer before trying to reload. Can anybody please help me retrieve my saves or confirm that they are lost forever??

Thanks all

I'm pretty confident that both problems would have been caused by the creation of that profile actually, which is why I've merged it with Cycrows thread. It looks like you've somehow created a vanilla profile where your scripts aren't loaded, but to which all your saves are attached, and a different profile (presumably with your scripts) which doesn't have any saves.

I don't use the feature myself, so I can't tell you how to correct it - if you read the doco for the plugin manager it should give some idea of what you need to do.

if you dont have any mods, then you dont really need to use any profiles at all.

but the profiles control saved games, so your save games will be associated with your profile.

if you have a few profiles, you could try activating each one and then checking if your save games return, then u'll know what profile the save games are connected to.

i would say most likly they are connected to the vanilla profile, creating a new one could have then had no saved games to use.

once you found them, you can simply copy the saves somewhere, deactive the profiles and copy them back, and the save games will be used as your non profile saves

Any idea why Cycrow's script packs crash the installer, but normal single scripts work fine?

endless frustration

Post by Eraser_tr »

After my game getting screwey and posting about it here for help, I did a complete reinstall to try to get things working in perfect harmony as they did before.

I'm now running into a frustrating SPK/XSP problem.

Using the plugin manager, I can install whatever scripts just fine. But if I install a new ship, when I go to check if it shows up properly(usually via the model viewer) The new ship is nowhere to be found.

On the contrary, most scipts apparently don't work with the old script manager as a seperate program, but ships installed with the ship manager work perfectly fine.

I just want to go back to how things were working perfectly before the bizarro crashes I was having. A nice simple 2.5 with Xtended as a base, with whatever scripts and ships I pleased.

Hey Cycrow, hope you can help me. I'm trying to do a clean install of my X3 because of a bugged install I had of XTM, and the team there suggests to uninstalling everything including your script manager.

The problem is that the I can't do it. Every time I go to uninstall it, it tells me that I don't have the permission to do it and I should contact the system administrator. But I did log on as the administrator and it's still saying the same thing.

Is there a course of action you can suggest?

Origional Ships?

Post by orion_1394 »

Hey all just looked around the forums to see if there is anyway to use Cyrow's ship modifier for X3's origional basic ships? and i seem to have lost the mamoth on my game? i know i can just reinstall but it would be better if i could just find the mamoth's ship script myself and just put it in.

Oh and also does editing a ship (roger young) to have 8 million cargo ( i know) make the game crash? i just seems that every time i use SETA the game just goes offline. the graphic card doesn't overheat and graphics are to a minimum. i know that this paragraph is suppose to be on another subject but i just need to type this out quick before my internet cuts off.

I would like to know if I'm the only one who's having extreme problems with the plugin manager.

It occasionally hangs when I load a new script, and will keep hanging if I keep trying the same spk file. But if I install another spk and that installs fine, it'll then install the first file as well when I try again. It didn't do this in the first X3 install, but it started doing it in the second.

That is not much of a problem, though, since in the end things work anyway.

The ship function is, however, very broken.

Drag-and-dropping a bunch of xsps (ships) will cause only the first one to be properly installed. The others start up as installed but disabled, and if I enable them manually they either don't appear ingame or appear with no model.
The only reliable way I've found to install multiple xsps is to close the manager after every file load, then double-click the next. And even then, it occasionally happens that a ship appears with no model. Installing some other ship and then the first one sometimes (NOT always) cures this.

More importantly, it just screwed up my second X3 install.
I was playing around editing the xsp package for the Monsoon Gunboat, reloading the xsp every now and again and looking at the changes ingame. I don't know if I screwed something up in the package or what, but at one point X3 crashed on savegame load. No problem, thought I; I removed the ship from the list, and... X3 crashed again. And again and again and again.
To make a long story short, it now thinks all my savegames are corrupt; I don't know what happened, but I'm pretty sure the plugin manager left some part of the "bad" package in the game that's now screwing everything up.

I'm reinstalling the game again; this time I'll back up all the post-patch .cat/.dat files, so if the manager screws up again I'll just put the old files in place and hopefully be set.

On the subject of ships, the editor is mildly broken as well. It doesn't reliably change missile and weapon settings, and it seems to randomly fill up with garbage the whole "guns" field if I add a turret.

There are other things, but I forgot them.

Comment about save games : If you save the game with something in it that is later removed, then any attempt to load that save later will crash.

For example, you load an xsp ship, buy it/create it and save the game. Then upon loading a new xsp ship, it corrupts something and when you remove the plugin manager file, it also removes the original ship. When you try to load that save game, it will crash because it contains something that is not specified.

Also, if the order in which you load xsp ships changes, this also could crash the save loading.

The game is very intolerant of things changing. You only need to bugger up 1 thing to cause game crashes, and once the crash occurs, if you dont know what caused it, it can be impossible to repair.
