That is sort of FAQ task.

Btw, did you already have the "field of fire" of turrets?

Haven't quite got as far as implementing that (yet),
various other things happened inbetween (like XTM7 :)),
Perhaps I'll have another look soon, also working up to
making a dll for displaying ships in Cycrow's 'Custom GUI'.

Do you mean you get a "can't find mfc71u.dll" or "a crash has occurred in mfc71u.dll" ?

Which version of the viewer are you running?
If it's 1.1.2.2 or 1.1.2.3,
then you need to have installed 1.1.1.6 first (see original post),
since the other two are just 'extra feature patches' (XTM & sprayshop).
The installation should copy mfc71u.dll to your Windows/system32 directory
(but most Windows PCs will already have it - possiby except Win98).

If you've done all that, are you running Vista?, perhaps there's an install
problem (I'm not aware of one).

It's 1.1.1.6, running on XP, and I have all the DLLs.

It's crashing with it as in a real crash (not finding a dll is not a crash) accessing the wrong area of memory crash or executing an invalid function crash.

After tryinf 1.1.2.2 it works beautifully. It appears to crash if you don't use the new version for the xtended mod rather than report any error.

Glad it's working,
1.2.2.2 was made specifically for XTM compatibility (ie to stop the 1.1.1.6 crash + a couple of other things).
Yes, software should never crash, but heyho nothing's perfect :)

What format has a help file? I can't open help file with MS Word 2007 :-( Is it correct?

Thanks.

I think it was written in Word2000, so I would have expected it to open in Word2007.
It certainly opens with OpenOffice, & used to open with Wordpad.exe, but when I now try I get 'graphic filter' errors.

Here's a link to a rich text format that should open in Word or WordPad:

Dave,

First of all, big kudos for an excellent tool.

I must confess that I have not read all 15 pages of posts, so I apologize if this has already been addressed.

Would it be possible to optionally start the viewer without 2d mode enabled? (The wireframes between the stats and the spinning 3d).
I find that just disabling the 2d option makes the whole application 1000* times more responsive. I often load one ship, disable the 2d, then load all the other ships I'm interested in comparing.

I have found this to be true on both a 5900GTX and an 8800GTS.
I suspect it is because consumer nvidia cards are optimised for textured triangles, not for lines. (nvidia want you to fork out for a Quadro for that). I don't know if ATI cards have the same issues.

You're right, I hadn't realised it was so significant, something must have changed
somewhere over the versions. There's a lot less initial re-drawing going
on when loading ships with the 2D turned off.

I guess your work-around is to load a small ship, turn off 2D, then
carry on loading the other ships you want to see.

Not sure when a new version is likely, which could address this by making the option
a 'sticky' preference, but I'm still looking at the code on & off.

Again you're right, seem to have forgotten to put that up on-site, doh.

I think most players find the thread
http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php? ... 02#2065302
by searching for 'Pandora', but it never reached guide-sticky status.

I tried it a little while ago on Vista and it works OK for me.

It's now a few hours later - after reinstalling XP after booting to dual-boot Vista corrupted my XP

If you are running XTM (or possibly some other mods) you will need
version 1.1.2.2 or 1.1.2.3 of the viewer -
look at the recent posts in this thread for a link - page 14 in fact (or go to my www, below).

Anyone running this under Vista OK (or not) ?

In-Game Model Viewer : Preview Ships At Shipyards

Post by exogenesis »

There's now an in-game version of this, if anyones interested &/or feeling adventurous, on the S&M forum.
Allows previewing of ships available at shipyards in the sector the player's ship is currently in.

Excellent... but I have a slight glitch

Post by EddieDoherty »

Hi,

As a noob, I was looking for a list of available ships to make some comparisons. I was delighted when I found this program and I have just tried using it for the first time. Having printed out and followed the manual, I seem to be having a slight problem, which, so far, seems to be unexplained.

On clicking on the "Open ships" button, instead of a list of ships appearing as shown in the manual, such as "Titan" in the M2 Destroyer category for Argon, all I can see is a "-". This appears in almost every box that should contain the name of the class of ship. A few of the Argon ships appear as "M1", "TAXI", "MOD_TL", "R1" AND "R2". Everything else just shows "-". This also shows up when I load the ship details as you will see in the attached pics. This would not be a major problem if there were only one ship per race in each category as I could easily work out what the ship was myself. Maybe this IS the case? I did say I was new to the game. I am a bit behind as I am only just starting out on X2- The Threat (sale prices are great, aren't they?)

Anyway, great work on this utility, but any ideas on what I have done wrong; assuming that I have?

Thanks,
Eddie :?

You've got a damn good sense of timing, I'm going to do a minor(ish) update very soon
(for a different reason - to do with a problem when used with the X3-Editor + other things...).

I've also realized that for X2, the M6's in the open-ships dialog have been missing since a few versions back now.

I haven't seen the problem you're describing under normal circumstances,
it sounds like it's not reading the descriptive xml files somehow
(the in-game idents like you described are used if it can't find the descriptions, but I don't see why '-' should turn up).
An image would certainly help.

The forum syntax for embedding images in a post is e.g.
[img*]http://www.Exogenesis.co.uk/Main1024_2_thumbS.jpg[/img]
(remove the *, it is just to make it show here as text)
see FAQ:
http://www.egosoft.com/support/faq/faq_ ... bb8e56f2f4

but beware of forum rules image-size limitation,
ie "Images posted should not exceed 640 x 480 and 100kb in size", see:
http://www.egosoft.com/support/faq/faq_ ... bb8e56f2f4

And anyway, to make the characters readable you'de need more resolution than 640x480, so a direct link would be better, e.g.
[url*]http://www.Exogenesis.co.uk/Main1024_2_thumbS.jpg
(again remove the *)

Presumably you're playing X2 as a run-up to X3 ?

Thanks for the quick reply. They don't make it easy to post pictures so I have sent you a PM with a suggestion.

I will certainly get around to X3 in time, once I have cut my teeth on X2, but I've got a divorce to get through before I can go splashing out on luxuries! If only I could exchange credits for real cash?

is the creator of the software here anymore?

cause i found out, that the program doesnt show the models like they appear ingame, which is pretty bad as i would need it to show them like ingame.
