With X3 kill of X2 mod work ?

Since X3 has reached Beta testing and with all things going well, a release date probably in November, will many people still play X2 when X3 is released ?

I'm asking because I have a huge amount of work to do on my mod and I don't know if there is any point in actually trying finishing it except for personal use.

How do the rest of you feel about this situation ?
Extended Horizons. Adds 15 new sectors to explore and to make a home in for your empire. Works with your existing Game save and does not require a new start.
Wing combat commands: Attack Fighters and Attack Capships. Adds the two commands to the Wing Combat menu.

Well, I don't know if Egosoft is going to competely delete the X2 forums. If they do then I'll stop and wait for the X3 tools to appear and play X3.

I do not think for a moment that Egosoft will ever lock or delete this forum but time is ticking by at an alarming rate, it's almost September.

X2 mods

I'm bustin my arse trying to finish up the latest version of my mod before X3 comes out. It's the closest thing I can get to X3 in terms of visuals and gameplay etc but hopefully I will get it done before X3 comes out. I think it would be smart for egosoft to wait til near christmas time for release like october or november. They will be releasing the game on pc and xbox 360 so their release date might be relevant to xbox 360 release date or maybe not. When will the xbox 360 come out?????

I look forward to playing X3 and eventually attempting to mod it with some of the ships I use now like the sovereign and maybe some other star trek ships I haven't messed with yet but I'm sure modding X3 will be a lot more complicated. Maybe they finally decided to make missile launchers so there will be an extra weapon part to place etc.

I think if anyone is close to finishing a mod they should get it over with soon so people will have time to play it. Once X3 hits the shelves everyone is gonna be playing it. I just hope that they won't be so restrictive with modding this time and also release a modding kit that actually has some detailed info in it not just some half sentences and basic info.

ill never stop playing X2, simply cuz i wotn be able to buy x3 right away :P

seriously tho, i may stop playing x2 but not totally..its just a classic what can i say



on a side note anyone know if x3 is guna ahev some form of multi?..i dont wana pay a fee for x-online......cuz if stuff works like some players do in X2, theres guna be 1 idiot with a bunch of friends whos guna ssemble a M1 M2 army with full carriers with M3s in em and go around vaping entire sectors.......

I agree vith Matt Armada take a look at eve online there are so manny idiots that wrek the game. if you trye to go outside the starting sector yu will be blown avay the second you enter the next sector.

So i guess we must wait and see wath happens?

i Think it be okay.
look at Kotor 1 and 2.
folks still made mods for it for several monthes after the second was released.
thu in the end it did start losing alot of trafficc as more people had Kotor 2.
Sides if you finish it here and now. when x3 comes out.
the folks here that makes these mods and scripts will figure a way to convert to X-3.

That's why you have another "idiot with a bunch of friends" assemble their own armada to counter that.


But back on topic, I know I'll still keep playing X2. Unless of course someone makes a huge X3 mod that allows someone to play it as though it was X2, in which case there wouldn't be any point in having X2. But other than that, I think it would be worth keeping X2 around. After all, people still play X-BTF, don't they?

I never got it in the first place, but I'm sure if I did have it, I would still play it!

So i suppose they will use the same board with added/modified sections.

@Matt Armata : Did you tried to search for the word multiplayer on this board ? No multiplayer in X3.

There are questions here from people who are playing X-btf, still. Some also heard about it here, after buying X2, and bought it recently! :roll:

I know I won't convert to X3 immediately. X2's still plenty modable and there's too many things to play with. That, plus as things are now, the X3 requirements are still on a high level, and there's no telling if gameplay will be all that better from what we have now.

i couldnt cope with all that whizzy twirly steering thingy in freelancer :oops: so if x3 is like that i will probably stick with x2 for a good while yet

I really like the "idea" of freelancer because it was supposed to be a continuing part of the starlancer universe but I hated the way they took out the manual controls. Having to resort to pre programmed attack patterns and computer control is so stupid just so they can get people to stop fighting in looping maneuvers on multiplayer. Oh yeah and the freelancer ships were butt oogly lol.

the difference is freelancer seems to have a better modding community than X2 .......

From now on I buy games for their modding ability like civilisation IV and Half Life 2 .....

Its obvious games like this have a massive community

the fairly old game Hardwar has a fairly dedicated group of gamers ... its a pity theres not a big gang of modders because a lot could be made of that game i think

Yup this is the third one you resurrect.. So, please read the rules, and stop that. Thanks.

Our modding community is usually great, but you should realize that X3 is out, and most of this community has moved to the newer engine.
