Strange world, isn't it? HL2 and FEAR have never crashed on me, but x3 crashes every couple of hours. I work in IT and built my own rig which is darned stable.

Having said that, x3 has already given me more playing hours and more enjoyable gaming than either of those two.

It looks like 1.3 will add to that and hopefully sort out the problems of the other people who are worse off than me. The potential is there for an awesome game (especially with the new scripting engine - look at the longevity of Morrowind).

It's a shame that people have been put off so far, but (barring those with serious crash problems) how much of that is a problem with hype / raised expectations? Let's not fall into the same trap for 1.3.

The amount of different componenets and computers in the world this day is staggering!..... To release any game day 1 and expect it to work on every one of these computers is just too much these days. Not every possible combination of computer can be tested.

I have been playing X3 for three weeks now and so far no crashes. I am acually pretty blessed. I dont have huge problems with many games...

HOWEVER .... :)

FEAR, HL2, DOOM3, Battlefield... all awesome games in their own right. Each one of these has crashed on me at some point. On release HL2 took over two hours to be ready to play, and even then... stuttered so badly at load points until a "patch" was released to fix the problem.

Not bagging these games... Not at all, I enjoyed them all immensely, still do. If I were to sit here and complain about every "fault" or bug in games, I shouldnt play games or I should buy a PS2.

I love my PC. Considering the scope of the game and the jawdropping graphics, I will put up with the glitches :)

Off topic.
When i bought Half life 2... i got home and installed it on my computer..... Started it up..... Hmmmm... nice graphics, looking at this big tower in the sky i said to my brother, Well i hope the plot is'nt to get to the tower and kill the bad guy.... "It was :headbang: Two days and finished... That was worth it.

So no bugs for me on HL-2.... Ran smooth all the way through. Online the latest download for me is a pile of pants, now thats buggy.

It seems to me that those who play x3 without bugs. play bf2, hl2, and the others with many bugs, same with me, i have given up playing x3 until patch comes out, simple reason when it isnt crashing i can watch the universe die from lack of traders.
But i have played doom3, bf2 and hl2 and not one time did it crash on me.
weird :?

i've had no problems with X3 and been playing it fine
but i also had no problem with Quake 4 either, a few crashes in Hl2 but nothing major
i've not played bf2 or FEAR so cant really comment on those

but for me, all those games are about as buggy as each other and non of them have been so bad that i couldn't play them or ruined my gaming experience

That is a codec issue. Register your game and post in Tech Support. Or better still, have a look at some of the existing threads.

Ehh, I didn't read through 34 pages of posts... sorry for that, so please don't flame me if it's already been asked.

So, will the Alt+Tab-ing be fixed in 1.3? Any clue anyone?

I dont remember it being mentioned, you need to check out the link that mentions the 1.3 patch not this forum.

Its on the main page and is the latest news dated Dec 12th, remember its only a partial list of whats in the patch.

I am guessing that they have a release date for the patch ie before Christmas and it depends how much they get done by that time.

If all goes well I expect quite a bit from this patch, but then I like being an optimist

As far as I am aware, and this aint gospel I think the issue with ALT_TAB is not just a game issue but one that involves windows prog priorities and resource allocation and as such is unlikely to be changed.

i think its partly to do with DirectX 9 as well
its not the only directx9 game i've seen that has the problem
i made a directx9 game and also had problems with it with alt+tab, even thou my opengl and directx8 ones worked fine

Some of you expect too much.

Thanks for the update Abyss, take your time and get it right.
Hopefully this will calm down some of the more excitable elements of the membership...
I agree.

There are many DirectX9 games that CAN Alt-Tab just fine, so it's certainly possible.

To my mind, though, the existing ability to run it in Windowed mode (aka full screen minus a tiny strip at the bottom) and Alt-Tab from there, means it's relatively low priority to me.

Any ETA on the patch, CBJ? I'll be going away for three weeks starting the 23rd, but I'd love to get my hands on the patch before then and at least try it out.
