torus aeternal puzzle.

Post by Stabby Dave » Tue, 23. Jan 24, 13:35

I think I may have got myself into a bit of a pickle with this one.

I'm at the point where I need to get the 8 switches to turn green, but I can't see how. At the moment, the switches are set like this:

1 Green locked
2 Green locked
3 Green locked
4 Red unlocked
5 Red unlocked
6 Red unlocked
7 Green unlocked
8 Green unlocked

As far as I'm aware, the swiches affect one another in the following way:

1 > 2
2 > 1,3
3 > 4
4 > 5
5 > 4
6 > 5
7 > 8
8 > 6,7

This being the case, I don't see how it's possible to unlock them all. I can't go back to an earlier save, cos I don't have one.

Is any of my information incorrect, or can any one see something I've missed?

Cheers.

If your switch state and logic are all correct then 4, 8, 7 should do the trick.

Ah! change 4 and it says "bypass detected resetting nodes" and promptly changes the locking.

6,7 and 8 are now all locked. I see no physical way of doing this from here.

There seems to be absolutely no pattern to this at all. Changing any switch seems to activate "bypass detected - restting nodes", (seemingly) randomly altering which switches are locked.

Think I'm going to have to call this one a day and find a way out.

I think the bypass detected is an intentional phase that everyone gets (perhaps linked to unhelpful attempts made?) and to make you play through the lock sequence at least twice. (Evil devs!)

Persevere and you should get there eventually. The key is to think a few moves ahead when using the ones that influence two locks to set up future successful moves. It is meant to be a puzzle after all! :D

I have no problem with the idea of planning it all out, but (knowing which switches affect which others), but when it changes the lock status on the fly, I really don't see what I can do.

I've more than once got to a point where switches 7 and 8 are both locked or both unlocked. From there, there's no way to solve the puzzle without blind luck.

Sequence 8, 7 will always get 7 and 8 in and out of step. You proved that in the opening post position. You have to play 1-6 correctly as well. I didn't say it was easy, but it is never impossible even though the devs do like to trip you up now and again just when you think you have worked it out.

It must be me, but if 7 and 8 are both locked, you cant change either of them and if they're both unlocked, then changing either will lock them both. :gruebel:

In all my saves, switches 7 and 8 are either both locked or both unlocked. Is there any way to let this go and just escape. I can't find a way to get out and I can't seem to go forward.

I *really* don't want to have to start the entire game from scratch.

Cheers.

You ultimately want all of 6, 7 and 8 to be green unlocked at the same time and you already know how to do that using 8 and 7. It's the others that you need to get right after that and you have the means to do that in the first 5 switches.

Yeah, that's the 'get through it fastest on arrival' solution, but the OP wants a recovery from an extant apparent impasse situation with no prior save.
