NEWS: Updates for X Rebirth, X3: Albion Prelude and X3: Terran Conflict

Post by CBJ »

It's update day! As many of you will be aware, updates for X Rebirth, X3: Albion Prelude and X3: Terran Conflict have been undergoing testing for some time. We've now reached the point where we believe that these updates are ready for everyone to benefit from them, so without further ado we present:

X Rebirth 4.10

This update brings you a number of improvements that didn't quite make it into 4.00, and a few fixes for things that did. In particular we've improved capital ship movement and general AI flight behaviour in specific situations, and made some UI tweaks including adding ammunition information to the detail menus for ships and stations. As usual, we've also improved performance here and there and squashed some crash bugs. Some of the improvements we've been able to make have come as a side-effect of our efforts on the VR Edition that we're working on, and we're expecting more to come from that in the future. The full changelog is quite extensive, and well worth taking a look through.

X3: Albion Prelude 3.2 and X3: Terran Conflict 3.3

Since their last update, we've taken the opportunity to do a couple of things with these games. Most of these are fixes, and have been applied to both games; those of you with many playing hours will be pleased to note that one of these addresses the performance and memory issues that can occur with certain missions. Modders will find a few small improvements in X3AP, and players who use the Russian and Chinese localisations will hopefully be pleased to see text improvements that had been made in X3AP have now been back-ported to X3TC. Also back-ported to X3TC, though currently only in the Windows version, is the controller support from X3AP.

Yes, well done guys.

One thing: I noted the X3AP.exe was updated, has the nosteam equivalent also been done yet?

Do I even need this if I'm playing a modded game that's not controlled by steam?

Not yet, but it will be very soon, along with similar downloads for the other games and the GOG updates.

IMHO, if it fixes the memory leak that causes the occasional hang, then definitely yes.

The NoSteam EXEs for both XR and X3AP are now available from the downloads page, as is a 3.x->3.3 patch for X3TC for those whose copy of this game is not linked to Steam. Note that you do not need these downloads if your game is a normal Steam installation.

Wish x2 was patched to work better than it does in win 10 as tried playing it but ship movement and stuff is really hard for some reason compared to how I played it many years ago.

There shouldn't be such a problem on Windows 10 with X2. Best you open a topic in the Tech forum with your system specs and the rest of the requested info, so others can share their experiences and help with your specific problem.

I did but no one responded. I swear flight controls were weird in x2 on modern OS iirc i think turning was tuned really high as in you couldnt turn small incriments. Was the demo maybe i installed or full game off steam i just cant remember. Was just wanting to see the intro to see how fluid it was on a modern spec machine as iirc the intro was choppy on fps when x2 came out even on top systems back then.

Can we get an update on what's going on with the development of the VR edition? I'd really enjoy playing X3 in VR...

Horrible controls are more like a feature there as far as I remember. I only could fly big ships there with any level of enjoyment using keyboard and mouse. X3 was a breath of fresh air after that. IMO no other space game has it better than X3.
